Ohio Governor's Transgender Decision

CNN —
Ohio’s Republican governor has vetoed legislation that would have barred transgender youth from receiving gender-affirming care, he said Friday.
Signing the bill would “be saying that the state, the government” knows what’s better for youth than their parents, Gov. Mike DeWine said...

Sounds just like Democrats that the government knows better than the people.

Par for the course , let the craziness continue.

Except that this was a Republican, See, even Republicans can be decent human beings at times. And no, it is not "the government knows better". Where did you get that from? It is the person who owns the body that knows better. Not the government and not the parents.

It’s amazing, though it shouldn’t be, how many people clearly didn’t actually read the OP or misread it. Knee jerk reactions from a polarized group.
It's amazing that you would make such a claim in post #10. Just how many of the previous 9 posts do you claim are from people who "clearly didn’t actually read the OP or misread it"?

Given that three of these nine posts were from @metis and me, the only knee jerk reaction appears to be yours.

I'm speaking of the Nanny State mentality in general. The government knows better in terms of what you drive , what you can cook on, what you can shop with , what you can you eat , what you can drink, what you can say , what you can and cannot do with your body....

My opinion, which I found is most unpopular for some reason, is that until such time as the politicians can present their medical credentials in related fields, they should keep their big fat noses out of everyone elses business.
Your opinion is not unpopular with me!

If may cost him politically, but he did the right thing imo.
I no longer think that I'm sure about that. There is nothing in the polls, nothing really being said in the media, but I sense there is a real undercurrent going on that the polls (which are really too small and often in disagreement with each other) aren't revealing. I think that the Republican party really is going to take a shellacking in 2024, because it is no longer acting, or even pretending to care, in accord with the public's mood on a number of social issues.

Yes the economy is important, but think about it -- early in Biden's first term inflation was rising faster than inflation, but at this moment that has reversed. And I think that's likely to continue. People may not be ready to talk about that yet, but I bet they are noticing the shift. Just look at the record number of travellers over this holiday season -- it doesn't seem as if people can't afford gas, airfare and Christmas presents! So as these social issues -- abortion, how American's treat their own, access to health care and more -- increase in number and negative outcomes, I think the outlook for the Republicans goes down.

And I think it gets worse -- much worse -- for the Republicans if Trump wins the nomination. Maybe not many people like having to vote for the better of two bad options, in the end -- in the ballot box -- I think they will do the right thing in numbers that the pollsters aren't seeing yet.

Good. The state should stay out of deciding medical care for others.

I think there's exceptions with this. Im for transgender care by the way and that the government shouldnt legislate the care of trans youth like this. But that's because banning things like puberty blockers goes against the majority of medical opinion. See some places have outlawed harmful medical practices and that's a good thing. An example of a harmful medical practice that's been outlawed in some places is gay conversion therapy. Because most the medical community agrees it's harmful. So unless the medical community overwhelmingly believes something is harmful then the government should stay out of medical decisions

I count three, which is significant given there were only nine posts at the time.

Even some states here in the US have banned conversion therapy. And its a good thing. What's not is the government going against what the medical community believes is helpful
