Oil gone in 2070

It's estimated that in 50 years that all the worlds oil will be gone.
At least the earth gets some time to recover

Is there anything we can start doing now to prepare for this global event?
People won't give up their wealth easily (all the cars, expensive houses, TVs, Smartphones, computers etc)
Best way would be "reduce world population to 5 billion max" IMO.
If we do nothing, nature will take care of it herself.

Start simplifying things gradually over time.
Most important.
They better start now; don't wait too long.

Organic chemistry has led us to exploit hydrocarbons of all kinds. And is the base of all energy and plastic material exploitation.

There is already enough waste plastic in the world to enable a sustained recycling cycle to meet our needs indefinitely. However we only recycle a tiny fraction of it.

Transport will go all electric in the UK and Europe In the next few years.
The UK used no coal for the past two months for the production of any of its electrical power.

New houses are no longer able to be supplied with mains gas, in England.

Not started on the reserves in the Arctic or Antarctic yet and barely touched those in the south china sea.
The wastes of Russia hold more Oil and Gas than they could ever exploit.
And that's only what is known about. The oceans are big and hardly been explored
But WHY?
The Earth and all its creatures is already circling the drain, why accelerate the process by seeking new sources for a pernicious resource?

I suppose there will always be people looking for resources to exploit. But that does not mean that they will be allowed to do so. But as we do not have anything like a world government. It is still problematic.

I am afraid thats the way it goes, esso, bp etc are not going to give up until all the profit has been wrung out of earth.

It's estimated that in 50 years that all the worlds oil will be gone. That's a pretty short time. Is there anything we can start doing now to prepare for this global event? Other than trying to extend the life of oil and making new forms of energy which are great maybe another good starting point might be not to build skyscrapers we don't need or knock down buildings that don't need knocking down and illiminating the hundreds of different kinds of shampoos we use. Start simplifying things gradually over time. Haven't we been aware of this prediction for a while now? Since then I've seen a lot more growth than dialing back.

Reference?

It's hardly all gone. They just don't want people drilling for it.
