I guess they must be pretty hungry to have to resort to doing that. But I wouldn't consider that to be freedom. Sounds more like desperation.
I would consider individual freedom to be sacrosanct. But when it comes to groups of individuals forming collective organizations (outside of the government itself), that's a different matter.
