One Million Moms Protests Chobani's Sinful Lesbian Yogurt

Chobani's ad fails on two fronts. It may inspire lesbians to eat more yogurt, but it turns off a sizable demographic, and also fails to do anything positive to promote lesbianism, or gay marriage, or even LGBT Pride month.

It really does the opposite. It ridicules lesbians by depicting them as mildly self-centered, inconsiderate, smarmy and annoying middle-aged execs who are careless about personal hygiene (that foot looked dirty to me--and then it got smeared with yogurt and saliva, ack), have vaguely androgynous faces, and are clearly members of the 1% who can afford a vacation beach house complete with live bajo sexto balladeer.

Anyway, I think traditional and fundamentalist Christian women have a right to be mad, especially if they love Chobani, because this ad may have ruined their enjoyment of Greek yogurt forever. Chobani made the mistake of associating love of yogurt (what's more wholesome than yogurt?) with an affection so unnatural the Good Book labels it vile.

Paul wrote in Romans 1:26 that "God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature."

And although Paul's 22 words are all the Bible has to say about lesbian love, they represent a way of looking at things that has endured for two millennia among the religious. There are still a couple generations of women living today who, come hell or high water, will never be conditioned to accept lesbian love as normal. So for them, that feeling induced by the sight of two women lying naked in bed together is not homophobia or intolerance or hate. It's a natural gag reflex. It's nausea. It's Chobani.

Ohh noes.

Those poor women. Never being able to eat their favourite brand of yoghurt again.

Ohh the humanity.

And just for the record just because someone has a negative reaction to something does not mean they have to continue having a negative reaction to it.

It's called mindfulness, look it up.

I'm willing to bet that the Chobani people know premium yogurt buyers better than you. The potential customers turned off are dwarfed by the ones who appreciate it and will be more likely to pick up a tub. Especially with all this free advertising the brand is getting.

Those women may as well rename themselves "One Million Pints" before someone else does.
