Opinions on Satanism

What I hear about Satanist is almost always pretty nasty, that they are violent, very aggressive, even according to one "peer reviewed academic" article they are a major social concern in Canada because of what some author heard in the news. What I think of Satanism is quite different, though I put little effort into it as, like any other religion, the experience with individual adherents tends to vary. Though I think the theistic/atheistic duality of LaVey's Satanic Bible is rather strange.
Personally I'm more partial towards Lucifer
