Other sons of God.

DawudTalut

Peace be upon you.
Peace be on you. May I ask about other sons of God which are also mentioned in the Bible.

David. Psalms 89.27
Solomon. 1 Chronicles 22.10
The righteous. 8.12
Christ's disciples. Galatians 4.6
etc

Thanks.

Whoever does the will of The Father is Christ's mother, sister, brother. (Mark 3:35) It might be some people (men and women...I'm hoping) do it more fully. They are the sons of God.

All of those are references to those who were adopted and loved by God as sons, but were not begotten of Him.

The way I understand it is that Adam was created a son of God. Also all the angelic beings are the sons of God. (Gen 6, and book of Job) However, none of them were born sons of God. They are created by God. So, that is the difference. Jesus was born the Son of God. Those who are born again are also born the children of God through Jesus. It's redemption. We were meant to be the children of God. But are alienated to our own Father because of sinful thoughts and ways. Jesus came as the Son of God to give people the power to become the children of God through Himself. That's how He reconciles His wayward human children to Himself as they should be.

Jesus is the David of Psalm 89. There are two Davids. The David that was and the prophetic David that was predicted to come. Just as there was the Elijah that was, and the Elijah to come.(John the Baptist). So there was the David that was, and the David to come (Jesus).

Psalm 89:27 is speaking of the resurrection. Jesus was made the firstborn child of the resurrection. That is He is the first to be resurrected from the dead and to completely overcome death.Verse 30 speaks of His children. Which are all those who are born again by the power of the resurrection. They become the children of Jesus. And, they will be chastened by God if they sin; as a Father chastens His children.

Question for you: in your avatar you have orthodox or catholic as if they are the same thing. Why have you equated the two as if there is no distinction?

Ahh, forgive me for the lack of clarity. I don't mean to equate Orthodoxy and Catholicism as if they were the same thing; they share much in common, yes, but there are some very important differences. My including of both is meant to indicate that I'm currently in between the two Faiths; I feel myself called to Orthodoxy, but since I'm still just an inquirer in the Orthodox Church and still in the process of discernment, I'm leaving the Catholicism bit in my ID just in case I end up going back to that, should that prove to be God's will.
