Sorry, didn't mean to offend or anything, all these terms are brand new to me.
No no, you did not offend. It's a common mistake most make. Hell, even someone that is new it the 'fact' that they are a Therian can make the same mistake ^_^.

I discovered the term Therianthropy in the early 1990's... it seemed a bit better than calling myself a werewolf, as that has too many horror movie stereotypes as baggage.

As for being a wolf... quite honestly I grew up disliking canids. I was very confused and upset about my wolfishness as a child. If I had a choice, I wouldn't have chosen being a wolf. (I liked Horses and Eagles)

So, what does it mean for you to have a fox soul or a wolf soul, on a spiritual and practical level? And what is the difference between a fox/wolf soul and a human one?

Also, I've read a little more about this and, please don't take offense at this, you must get a lot of people deriding you as continuing a childhood fantasy/roleplay. What would your normal response be to those people? (other than go **** yourself ;) )

You know I've never really thought about this other then that I am different then most people. Now the differences between a fox/wolf soul and a humans.... I don't know really, never put much thought into. Sorry I couldn't answer this, but it has got me thinking.

Yeah, I do get that a lot, just look at one of the post from an early page. I usually just tell them that they could not possibly understand and leave it at that.

Spiritually, it makes me a lot more sympathetic to my animist ancestors.
Practically, it means I have to be more aware of my instinctive responses and how they will effect my interactions with other people.

The difference between a fox and a wolf, I would think, would be in our instinctive reactions to situations. I have to be aware of how I act in groups of different sizes/situations. How I react to food sharing situations as an oddball example. I also have to realize when I've reached my "human" limit and spend some quiet "wolf" time.

I don't really talk about it with other people... my mate knows, but it isn't a subject I'm "out" about.
Frankly, it would have been great to be able to just give it up as a fantasy!
I tried... I told myself it was a childhood fantasy and I closed that part of myself off in a little box for several years. I avoided anything 'wolfish' that would give away my embarrassing little secret. Eventually it made me sick... I fell into a deep depression, started having nightmares and so on.

The irony is that in talking with my GBLT friends I found that I was going through the same sorts of things they did by being closeted/self deceptive. My 'coming out' to myself and my mate made all the difference.

So? Who says I can't have the soul of an extinct animal? What if we hunt wolves and foxes and bears to extinction?

Compsognathus lives on!

That's where categorization comes into play. Azakel and PW tell us that Therians are the souls of Living animals, therefore, if you believe you have the soul of an extinct animal, you are not Therian, you are something else.

I would place them in Other-Kin. And if Wolves and Foxes became extinct and people believe there souls where of those animals then I'd say we would start to be placed in that category soon.

P.S. Can I maybe get a Staff member to merge the post about Therian here in my Therian thread to get thing on topic here and there??? ^_^

I don't personally believe in reincarnation... so where would one get the soul of an extinct animal?
(not that I'm 100% sure where one gets any soul to begin with)

Do you guys ever have days where you feel more like your therian type than usual (just feel more foxish or wolfish)? How does it impact your daily life, if at all?

I do, and funny you should ask. I've been feeling that way for the last few days.
It makes me less comfortable around people, and just want to get away, and I bot more(I don't know), aggressive.
I also feel vary, not sure what to say....rip my skin of and be me.

Absolutely, though not as often now that I have "made peace" with myself. I'm not sure if that is because I'm better able to integrate/ accept my subconsious drives and work around them or if I simply have been too busy to "let my fur down" so to speak. Or perhaps as I'm growing older I'm slowing down.

When it does happen I notice an increase in my aggressiveness (generally social/dominance related agressiveness and lack of tolerance for people my subconscious has labeled an "omega").. inability to deal with crowds and a general need to shun people other than those I've adopted as my "pack" (a handful of close friends some of whom know about my wolfishness).
I often feel the need to run around outside and this time of year, roll in the snow. Sometimes I just need to be scritched and/or lean up against my mate... though, often she isn't as keen about it.

When you're not as in touch with that side, do you feel kinda disconnected?

Sorry for all the odd questions, I'm trying to gauge myself through both of your experiences :)

I feel that I am actually what they call a Contherian. I am always in touch, always in a state of both theriotype and human at the same time (passive). ^_^
Though the term would be different, the same can be for Otherkin.

Absolutely... you can't deny a part of yourself without feeling that way.

Not a problem the best way to learn is to ask questions. If my experiences can help someone else then I'm glad I've had them.
