The House is refusing to release the ethics report on Gaetz to the Senate before his confirmation hearing. The claim is that it would be unusual to do that, but that wouldn't be unusual. What is unusual is that such a report would exist for an AG nominee in the first place. There is no mystery over why Republicans want to keep it secret.

This is nuts to me. Someone explain this to me like I'm a five-year-old.

So they can't release a report about a Representative, after he's no longer a Representative. But if that same person is being nominated to become Attorney General, they still can't release it because ..... ? Suddenly it's not pertinent information because ....? It seems to me that the release of the report becomes even more important, in that light.

And that is exactly why Republicans do not want the report released. If the report had exonerated him, they would have wanted it released to the Senate and the public.
