my favorite plant.
Was stung all the time as a kid lol
it's the only plant that makes it's presence clear. when i was a kid and saw this plant i marked the area in my head and just stood next to the area not to touch the plant. the area belonged to the plant. It's a good plant. It still stings.

The very first time I saw the plant, I didn't know what it is. When I touched the leaf it hurt a lot. That was it. It's presence since then became strong. Not clear enough, lol. Maybe it should shout next time.
Like I did brushing up against it.
I saw it on tv, people eating the plant. Strange. It's edible
These are very common in the UK. Not sure how common they are in the US or other places.
I still remember being stunned and shocked by such an innocent looking plant having such a nasty sting. I don't even remember what part is spikey, I don't even remember how bad it exactly hurt, I just remember it hurt and I've avoided them since.
You become desensitised over time. The venom isn't really harmful (in fact it helps with rheumatism) so your body is practically overreacting as with an allergy. Your immune system "learns" that it's harmless over time (and forgets it over the winter).
So I have heard. How does not pick and cook it? I cannot imagine eating it raw. It's edible
They're common in the PNW where I am. They like moist, wet environments, and we certainly get that here with all the rain.
