Okay, don't touch them. Though that makes picking them an adventure. Get a big pot of boiling salted water and dump them in. Blanch for 45 seconds to one minute. Dump into a colander and press out excessive moisture. Blanching makes them safe to handle.

So I have heard. How does not pick and cook it? I cannot imagine eating it raw.

I've never been hungry enough to find out but I'm guessing gloves and long sleeves are important. It can also be used as a fibre to make cloth.
