Pagan afterlife

Is it just me or do they seem a bit "restricted".With Asatru, you must die in battle or you go to eternal bleakness in hell.Egypt, if you don't have your book of the dead, you're pretty much screwed unless you are a bad enough dude, to beat back evil spirits.Aztec actually seems alright, everybody goes to a nice place if they are good and the best one goes to sacraficial "victems".So why is the pagan afterlifes so cut off for the average guy?

I think you may share a commonly misguided view of Asatru/Heathen/Germanic/Norse view of the afterlife. Hel isn't all what the Christians think of when they say hell (that is more like Nifhel/Niflheim). The "die in battle" part is mostly for those who want to be scooped up right away and taken to Asgard. Where some go to Valhalla and others go to Sessrumnir. I wrote a quick reply on the Heathen afterlife and can be viewed in this thread: http://www.religiousforums.com/forum/heathenry-dir/96005-heathen-view-afterlife.html#post1961446
I hope this helps.

The nice thing about Paganism is that we are allowed to think outside the box. As a Kemetic Wiccan, I believe I will live the best afterlife possible with the Ancient Egyptian Deities that I love, but that I can be cremated instead of mummified. I will probably not have a book of the dead. More likely I will be on someone's mantle until their kid has a party and my urn shatters on the floor below.

For a long time I closely identified with the Celtic otherworld, as it was a reflection of life on Earth, but painted in immortal tones of everlasting life. But over time began feeling that something more celestial - something that reunites me with the vastness of the universe somehow felt more appealing and more natural. Not residing in a faerie paradise. Not returning as a human, but using the whole of the universe as a resting place until its time to move on.
