Bingo. The reality is that all too many Americans value "my hard-earned money" over other people's needs, and the kiss of death for any politician here is to say they many have to raise taxes.
The truly ironic thing is, if the states had the same amount of workers benefits as other countries (mandatory paid vacation time for part time and full time employees, long service leave, mandatory parental leave etc) it would increase worker productivity and in the long run would likely increase profit margins

Absolutely it would, but all too many people just look at things from only what affects them directly.

Monies that go to the lower and lower-middle income families tends to get spent the quickest and done more in local businesses, which is where most growth is needed. "Trickle-down" doesn't work that well but "Trickle up" certainly does-- Economics 101.

Right, I don't advocate that murder be legalized.
Abortion is not murder. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy.

But you avoided the point, of course, which is what I am pointing out here. You're against government mandates in general, but you're all-for government mandates dictating what women can do with their own bodies. You think government should leave us alone, until it comes to the most intimate decisions a woman can make about her own body, and then you want the government smack in the middle of it. Which of course, appears to be a hypocritical position.
