They have taken it as a challenge. The JWs were trying to get my oldest neohew's girlfriend once, and after awhile she asked me if I could talk to them next time.
The first two girls I played gaurd demon against, they may as well have been little children who had never read the Bible. They didn't know their stuff, it showed, and they apparently reported it to someone because the next wasn't totally lost, but still leagues from being a Baptist dedicated to studying and thumping the Bible.
Then they sent an Elder. He didn't even try. We just chatted awhile.
They never came back. And it's unfortunate because their is no sweeter, finer dish than when Christians realize they are getting trounced by a nonbeliever with Church and Bible stuff and they see how they aren't doing their Bible studies and prayers like they should have
I've experienced this kind of interaction with Jehovah's Witnesses too. They sent others to proselytize when they couldn't successfully counteract me. All of them eventually gave up. They, like some other Christians, now like to accuse me of not properly understanding the Bible because I'm not a Christian. But I ignore them whenever they pompously judge me or accuse me of not understanding the Bible and not having spiritual discernment because I disagree with their personal interpretation of the Bible and doctrinal beliefs. I give them all the consideration I think they deserve, which, of course, is none.
I think it's obvious that some Christians enjoy bragging about having "
spiritual discernment" to properly understand the Bible but accuse other Christians or non-Christians of not having it. However, what they seem to forget or purposefully ignore is the fact that many non-Christians were once devout Christians and are well-versed in the Bible. These non-Christians read it, studied it, and prayed for spiritual guidance when they were Christians, just as I once did.
We didn't forget what we had learned when we renounced our Christian faith. We retained this knowledge and can now challenge judgmental Christians who smugly accuse us of not understanding the Bible because we're no longer Christians or we never properly understood it when we were Christians. I can see now how wrong I was to accuse Jehovah's Witnesses and other Christians of not having the "
right Christian beliefs" because they disagreed with mine and my evangelical interpretation of the Bible. I acknowledge the depth of damage I did by converting people to evangelical Christianity, which is what I believed. To be honest, I regret all the years I was an evangelist and street preacher, as well as all of the years I was a devout evangelical Christian.
