I would say that the Speaker of the House has the authority to meet with foreign leaders. This law refers to citizens WITHOUT the authority to meet with foreign leaders to deal with foreign relations. Just because the head of the executive branch of our government, Mr. George W. Bush, didn't like the fact that Pelosi went to Syria to meet with Assad in no way makes it an illegal act! Let's look at some of the illegal acts of the Bush administration before we try to bring Pelosi down for an an act that should be commended.​

What has Condoleeza Rice done right? Has she ever engaged any of the people in the Middle East that just so happen to disagree with us in any way? How can anyone attack Pelosi for trying to open up a dialogue between the US, Syria and Israel? Do we want peace or is it only to be found with sanctions that ultimately only hurt the poor people of these countries? The whole Bush Administration has been incompetant in dealing with anyone in the Middle East and the Speaker of the House tries to open up talks and people criticize her. We have already seen that peace is not to be found with the dropping of bombs or military intervention. It only makes the problem more complex and creates more hatred and strife. Applaud the direction that Pelosi wants to take us in along with MANY Republicans...They see that a new direction is needed and are not afraid to stand up against the Bush administrations failed policy of not talking to the ones that disagree with us.
