Is it because penguins usually live in cooler climates, and are, in regards to their internal temperature, "cool"?

Is it because they are slightly sinister and manage to make appearances where they are least expected, including on internet forums for religious discussion?

I do not know the answer to such a perplexing question.

I think Nanda might be right. Look at Pingu, for example. Who could imagine a more sinister creation than a penguins that speak to eachother in an undecipherable language. Who knows what they might be plotting?
