People who think they are going to Heaven - what do you think of this?

To those who confidently imagine they are going to end up going to Heaven.....

What do you think of this picture?

I'd never really considered it before but come to think of it I think that's a very good point

I personally would not enjoy being in Heaven if I knew that other people were in Hell - especially for trivial things like not accepting Christ as your lord and saviour (which really means allowing the religious authorities to dictate how you think and what you do)

And I think it would be a bit morally suspect to go ahead and enjoy Heaven whilst others suffer - and not just for a bit, but for all eternity!

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
First of all, I don't believe that God is playing any sort of game, and secondly I don't believe that denying the Christ is something trivial.

So accepting Christ ranks right up there with not killing people or torturing, etc.? It's that important?

I don't think God is playing a game either:

I think it's mostly a scam that is and has been orchestrated by humans...

If it helps some people who would otherwise not be good to be better people then I think that's OK but I no longer think Christianity holds as much truth as people say it does

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

For the unbeliever it is. And at its face value, believing in one God over another or none at all isn’t significant enough to damn you for all of eternity. So in that context, it is quite trivial.
Nearly always, those who 'deny Christ' have no idea at all what Christ is about, or means. So I don't think their denial has any significance. It'd be like me denying quantum mechanics just because I don't understand it. It's just silly egotism and ignorance on my part.

Those who do understand the truth of Christ and choose to deny it, however, are very a dangerous and scary lot. Fortunately for us all, they are fairly rare.

Let's put things into perspective:

For the crime of not doing and believing as a certain sect of people tell you you will be tortured for all eternity

That is more than a million times greater than 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years

Yeah, totally fair and not at all disproportionate

Yet people are actually cool with this

I think this speaks for the character of Christianity - and other religions that send disbelievers to Hell too

I wholeheartedly disagree with the above. I am going to think now how best to dissect this (offensive) post.

You started with saying “nearly all those who deny Christ “ then contradicted yourself when you said “they are very rare”.

So you think a lot of us are a very dangerous lot for “not understanding” Christ, huh? Thats a load of barnacles.

I think this is a generalization.

I know some that believe in this whole heaven bit... but are not in bliss about it at all, and the idea of others suffering a lesser fate(we'll say) deeply upsets them.

Just because a person doesn't like a belief doesn't mean they stop believing it.

I like your post, but I gave you a winner because you used the word 'barnacles'. That made my day.

Aye, it was one of my great dilemmas as a Christian.

I convinced several people to be Christian. I did so rather desperately, as their souls were in danger. I was never comforted by the dichotomy of heaven and hell. It did help me reason though that perhaps the belief system was false as it seemed so cruel, but that took nearly a decade to accept.

I've had both Christian and Muslim friends that deeply mourned the idea of loved ones in hell.

It hurt me to see them so sad.

And you yours
Whew, thank goodness.

One of my grandfathers may have ended up in hell, but I don't know for sure and I have the feeling that I also won't care that much one day. Maybe that makes me a bad person, but it will be after I am dead so I rather doubt it.

Heaven is earth imo. Heaven & hell is a fanciful, artistic, creative literary way of saying good times & bad times.
This could be but whatever. The absolute best book I ever read on Heaven was The Lovely Bones (not the movie, but the book, the movie sort of sucked). It didn't push any theological viewpoint, which I appreciated. It wasn't all that long - I started it on a short flight and ended it on the flight back! It didn't even address a Power or anything like that - it just basically described heaven as one girl saw it, and there was no indication of Christianity or Islam or anything like that. I really, really liked it and imagine that's a lot how heaven will be.

What’s this heaven like?

I believe in God and I believe that there is life beyond this life that we cannot even begin to imagine

However I think the whole Heaven vs. Hell thing is a pretty transparent system of scare tactics that has been in operation in one way or another for a great many centuries

Well, it doesn't scare me

Not one bit
