Pets Are People Too

Do you have pets? Do you consider pets a part of the family? What is your pets name? Do your pets do anything special or extraordinary? This is a thread where we can discuss our pets and why we like them and to express our special REALationship with them. And if it is okay with Rex Admin maybe we can post pictures of our pets.

Yep. I have three.

It's the little daschund that's most interesting. She's named Sugar. Why do I like her? I really can't say, but I like her. She's schizo, greedy, and all those fun things, but I still like her :). The funniest thing is that when she meets a stranger she "likes," she will wag her tail with joy. However, if you look, she'll be gritting her teeth and about to bite. If the stranger moves very far into the house, she'll try and bite him/her. Given that she likes this person, though, when he/she stops petting her, she'll then try and bite them to make them pet her again. Whereupon after a few seconds, she'll start the process all over.

Also, she doesn't bite hard there...but she often does mean business. It's kind of wierd.

I have two very goofy golden retreivers named Penny and Curley, sisters of the same litter. We got them for Christmas when I was seven years old. To be honest.....in some ways I miss them more than I miss my parents!

I don't currently have any pets. :(
I have had several animals share my life and home.
9 cats- Godzilla, Tom, Ugly or 'Ug' (she was beautiful), Spankie (a trouble maker), Paco, Furface, Raph, Aceie-doocie, and Professor
2 dogs- Jerry and Shadow (a 'husky-mix' and sweatheart)
6 lizards- Ryu (collared lizard), Merve (sandfish), Jone, Isack (both Anoles), Maha (a skink), and a gecko who I never named.
Countless fish.

I also helped look after my previous land lords two goats, cat, dog and chicken. The chicken was really more of a pet than anything elce. We used to joke that she was immortal, having survived attacks from hawks, a dog, a raccoon and harrassment from children wanting to hug her. One of her feathers adorns my van, helping to keep it as strong and 'immortal' as she is. ;)

We have a Manx cat called Kip (short for Rudyard Kipling), a fox terrier - Pippi- and a fox terrier cross (Pippis son) called Mac (short for McVittie).Mac is as dumb as a brick...honestly, he's the dumbest dog I've ever met in my life. He's incredibly good natured though...you could beat him with a stick and he'd still love you (we don't, of course). Pippi isn't good with strangers; we live next door to a park, and the neighbourhood kids used to climb up the tree next to our fence and throw things at her to get her going. Consequently she doesn't like anyone not in her immediate family.
Kip is a pain in the butt. He wont use a litter tray - for which I'm thankful - so he has to be let in and out on demand. And he wakes you up at 3am, and expects you to get up and feed him. He goes visiting the old lady across the road and bots food of her as well. He's been run over once;bit gimpy in the back legs on cold days now and my sister shut his tail in the door once.
I used to have a Childrens Python called Grover, but I had to get rid of him because my son got old enough to want to harrass him, which is not a good thing.

At the risk of sounding like a stereotypical old fart with no friends and a houseful of cats -- I have a houseful of cats. Only two are permanent: Tuxie-Tripod-the-Wonder-Cat was a feral tuxedo cat, she had a terrible accident and we had to have a front leg amputated. A true feral, only friendly to me; and, Jingle Cat -- Big, muscular teddy-bear. when a stray he'd come running when I jingled my keys to call him. Loves Piddle-puss.

I also have six fosters, at present. (I trap strays and ferals, have them spayed/neutered, get them their shots and, if they're socialized, try to find them forever homes, if ferals, ear-tip and return).

The Fosters: Reno Cat -- rescued from a bad situation in Reno Nevada. Sick and emaciated. Now about 6 Kg. healthy and happy.

Piddlywink ("Piddles", "Piddle-Puss"), Friendly, silky black and white fur, timid but friendly. Loves Jingles. Tormented by Letterbox.

Calico-Cat, very happy, playful, loves pushing things off counters and watching them fall, tipping over cups and glasses, playing with running water. Plays with Letterbox.

Letterbox Cat , (Squint-Eyed cat) -- Black and white, found in a field near my mailbox. Eye infection took >a year to clear up. Wrestles with Calico, torments Piddles. Feels duty bound to help with food prep in the kitchen.

Splotchy-Blotchy Cat. White, taupe and black splotches. World's cuddliest cat. Talkative, Lap-kitty. When 1st trapped was found to be lactating so I had to rush her back from the spay/neuter clinic and release her again. Re-trapped her and all her kittens after weaning. Placed everyone but her and:

SpotleyCat. Splotchy-Blotchy's son. Black-and-white feral. Is now friendly when I'm sitting at the computer or in bed. Wary and scared everywhere else. Will be difficult to place. Loves his mom. plays with Letterbox and Calico.

I also have two pigeons: Flip-Flap -- rescued with broken wing, and, Torque-Mada -- Hit by car (not mine). Found with neck broken, head facing tail, able only to flap weakly. I put him/her in a quiet dark place expecting he'd die but he recovered Head now faces forward, will give him a flight test in Spring and release if he passes.

Anybody looking for a nice companion animal???

hope you find this as interesting as i did.

If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can get going without pep pills,
If you can resist complaining about boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,
If you can overlook it when something goes wrong through no fault of yours and those you love take it out on you,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him,
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medicine,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aids of drugs,
If you can say honestly that you have no prejeduce against creed, color, religion or politics,
Then, my friends, you are almost as good as your dog.

I have a mutt dog we found wandering around with its mother when I was 14 or so. The mom dog wouldn't stay in our yard--she was trying to take all her puppies to find homes, we like to think. Once she finished that, another family in the neighborhood took her, and we kept Shadow the Wonder Dog. He's a mix of german shepherd, rottweiler, and black lab. One of his ears sticks up like a german shepherd, and one folds over like a lab. He used to have the rottweiler markings, but now he's mostly solid black. He's such a smart dog. We think that he's a human trapped inside a dog's body...(maybe some sort of weird reincarnation!). He's very loving and attentive and I swear he's the most intelligent animal I've ever seen.

I have two cats, Sammi and Momiji (Or Momitchi, we're not quite sure. He's named after an anime character that turns into a rabbit, and I've never been able to ascertain the original spelling of the name.) My beloved Frannie is a ferret, whose 'brother', Sugar Ray, left this life about 4 months ago. I have a feeling his spirit stole my house keys as it was leaving, too. (Those who aren't familiar with ferrets, I should let you know they have a tendency to wander away with things.)

Seyorni--I love cats! Your post sounded so cute!

Alright, my horse, Paddy, is the love of my life. He'd actually be quite angry if he knew I was calling him a pet, so I'll take a moment for him and specify that he is more accurately my business partner and/or babysitter. Yes, in his eyes I'm just some crazy girl who doesn't know what the hell she's doing. He tries to trust me, but more often than not it's me trusting him! He's saved my a** more than once. Here is an average conversation between the two of us:

Paddy: You want me to do what?!
Ceridwen: Um, just jump down there.
Paddy: Just jump 'down there'? Abby, that's a cliff, not a jump.
Ceridwen: Well, it's sorta like a jump...Plus, it's on the course so we hafta do it.
Paddy: Dear god--why do I let you get me into these things? Alright, here we go then...
Ceridwen: Quit acting like such a martyr--you love this more than me! What are you waiting for then?
Paddy: I'm waiting for you to let go of my face so that you won't be in my way while I finish this course and win us the blue ribbon. That's better--GERONIMO!!!

Ah yes, good times. He's got quite the sarcastic little attitude, but I love him for it. He's almost like a father figure for me, which is weird, but that's the best way I have of describing it!

I also have a cat, Scamp, who I got off of my aunt's farm for my eighth birthday. He loves me to death, but is mean to everyone else, which makes me feel special. :) Last July, my mom got my brother a black lab puppy named Gus. I knew it wouldn't be long before he became my puppy, and I was right! He's currently in training to be a barn dog...which means I'm just waiting for him to get stepped on by a horse so he'll learn to be afraid of them, lol. Not really any other way to teach him...

Pet: Cat

Type: Siamese (Simonese)

Name: Brpppprrrrrow

Pronounciation: Brpppprrrrrow a.k.a. Baby 2

Age: 6 years

Baby 2 was given to me as a kitten by my mother for becoming an ordained minister. She is all lady. She was also replacing another Siamese cat named Baby 1 that died that year of an acute case of leukemia. Baby 2 has all of the Siamese traits. Smooth coat, perfect for body stroking, and those deep blue eyes that you could very easily get lost into. Her love is suffocating but her presence commands attention. It was only this year where she became aware of her voice and now asks for almost everything because she knows she will get it. Likes chasing little rubber balls but her favorite is a Q-Tip on a string which for pennies a day provides hours of fun (though it is best when the owner participates in this activity). She is a lap cat and enjoys kneading and licking.
