Pets Are People Too

I have two cats and a dog.

My female cat is Isis, she's long haired, grey and white and is quite the little princess. She follows me EVERYWHERE I go and when I went to Calgary for three months a couple of years ago, she refused to leave my bed and my mother had to bring the cat litter and her food in my room. I bought her from the local animal shelter about 5 years ago.

My male cat is Osiris, he's a beautiful 30lb Calico who's only special talent is now being able to walk more than three steps without having to stop to rest. I also bought him from the animal shelter about 4 years ago and when I did, he was nearly 40lbs and couldn't move without having to rest in between steps. I put him on a diet and he's lost almost 10 lbs and can now run, jump, climb and play like a normal cat.

My dog is a male Samoyed/Collie mix, also bought from the shelter, 10 years ago. His name is Anubis. He's white with random beige spots. Despite his old age; he's now about 14, he's still a complete puppy at heart, always running and jumping, rearing to play with anyone or anything that pays him even the slightest attention.

And yes, my pets are completely a part of my family.

Isis, Osiris and Anubis? I love their names! Were you already interested in ancient Egyptian religion before you got them? Or did you name one and then wind up discovering it afterward and following the line?

Thanks! :D
No, I've always been interested in all aspects of Ancient Egypt, since I was quite young. I got Anubis first and named him. When I got Isis, I had just started following the aspects of The Cult of Isis, and so it felt right to name her that and Osiris just followed because in Egyptian lore, he was the brother/lover of Isis and I just thought it was cute to have their names coincide with each other.

We had a litter of Saluki pups when I was a kid, and they were all named after Egyptian Pharaohs, Gods/Goddesses lol. The only ones I remember now are Tutenkhamen (Tut), Nefertiti (Titi, who we kept), Amon-Ra, and Selkhet. It was a litter of twelve or something, so we had a lot to name lol. The runt of the litter was called Butch LOL.

LOL! That's the best! All of these little pups named after pharoahs and gods/godesses and then you've got Butch. Extremely cute! I once had a cat named Cleopatra, but we had to put her down a few years ago.

I had a Norse obsession a while back as well, with an albino Burmese Python named Thor. He's my baby, but he's been staying with my brother for the last couple of months because my son and I went away and my mother refused to take care of him while we were away, when she came here to take care of the cats and dog, so I had to ship my poor Thor over to my brother's. :(

Pet: Dog

Type: Pekingnese

Name: Ah-Chu

Sex: Male

There is a funny story about how we got Ah-Chu. My mother and I went into the animal shelter looking to adopt a cat and we just happen to be in the “right place at the right time”. The dog had just come in and since we were the only two people there my mother immediately signed the adoption papers. It was seven day wait but when they called to tell us the dog was ours we found out there were several other people who were also interested that waited there before our arrival just to make sure we showed up.

I did research on Pekingnese dogs because I wanted to come up with a suitable name (names are one of the most important things you can give to an entity). If I remember the legend correctly, there was a lion king by the name of Ah-Chu that married a female dog and another lion in which their offspring would produce these “tiny lions”. Also Ah-Chu had a sneezing/snorting condition and we didn’t want to call him Godblessyou.

Favorite Toys: Ah-Chu likes the stuff toys that are interactive, particularly the plush toys that contain an electronic voice (talking) box. If you give him this toy he will rip it to shreds just to remove the mechanism and chew the stuffed toy till it is unrecognizable. Truly a sight to behold and if you blink, you’ll miss it. Ah-Chu has a laundry basket full of toys (new and shredded). They are his and he doesn’t mind letting you know that they are his.

Bad Habits: Ah-Chu is insanely jealous and does not like to compete with another animal for attention. When there is another animal in the house, Ah-Chu will drag the door mat over to the other animal’s food dish and cover it so that the animal cannot eat. It will stay like that until someone uncovers it. He also has a “nipping” ankle fetish.

My favorite Ah-Chu moments: When someone accidentally sneezes and the dog comes running to them and that person has to sadly explain that they weren’t calling him.

I had 2 guinea pigs yesterday....one of them died last night :(

Here name was "capuchino" and "la gorda" is still doing well. Does anyone know any potential problems with guinea pigs choking on their food? She seemed to have choked on it.....and I don't want it to happen again.
