Phallic worship

What does auspicious mean in this context?

Thank you for asking. As per my understanding of Mandukya Upanishad, the shivo - the auspicious, is so because it is the Heart of All -- it simply cannot nurture any sectarian idea-notion. It cannot harbour any thought that may be partial. Thus it is shivo.

I repeat: The siva Lingam is not a phallic symbol. Its a mark of God. Anybody wishing to interpret it that way is just plain wrong. Its a sexual hung up Victorian era western interpretation that is just another attempt to make Hindus look inferior and silly. But as the saying goes, you do have the right to be wrong.
Be that as it may, I do not think phallus is unworthy of being symbolized. What better symbol for the generative power of God?

I disagree because that is simply not the true of the origin of linga adoration. A phallic interpretation is only one aspect and is not even direcltly reflected in the 22 aspects of linga worship that was posted above.

I disagree not because of prudishness but because it is not true.

Maybe phallic worship outside of SD exists somewhere, I really don't know. But not in SD.

Hindus definitely aren't prude. If some are today, its because of foreign invasions. The introduction of the sari top (blouse) is an example. A few hundred years ago it didn't exist. But then either Islamic or maybe Europeans came, and because of THEIR prudishness, got the women to cover up. That happened everywhere the Europeans went: Africa, Hawaii, Tahiti, North America. It was like they had breast phobia.

Another proof is that it takes quite the imagination actually to turn the lingam's shape into a phallus. Its nowhere near long enough, it has no phallic markings, and its upright.

There are also countless naturally formed lingams with no base from the Narmada River that most certainly don't resemble phalluses. There are also many swayambhu lingams. The entire Arunachala Hill is and others are often referred to as large lingams. Swayambhu lingams never resemble phalluses. Why? Because they are just marks.

Things get greatly distorted. (No pun intended).
