There are various tutorials and books that cover the entire subject.
I have been using Photoshop since it first came out, many versions and years ago.
However I only know and understand what I need to do. most of it is little or nothing useful for photographers.
It is an extremely useful, powerful and wide ranging program.

The best way to learn is to get a basic getting started book. Then each time you want to do a particular thing, learn that one thing at a time. The program is far too big to grasp even a fraction of it at once.

It would probably advisable to start with a copy of "photoshop elements" and only get a copy of the full Photoshop when you "Know" you need it.

Vanakkam,

If you want to do or looking for something more specific, I can help you.
What is exactly what you want to do ? Photo manipulation/correction ? Digital painting ?

Also, are you familiar with the software user interface or is it your first time ?

Some good advice from everyone here, but I'd also advise simply looking into the extensive help files that come with the program. They are very well written. Likewise, in the old days, at least, Adobe was very good on the phone explaining things that were not so clear in the early texts. They may charge for phone service now however.

Like Terry, I have used Photoshop since version 1.0 on a monochrome "fat" Mac. At one point I even taught a Photoshop class to Asian students... which made things a tad complex as I don't speak Chinese.

I highly recommend looking at Lynda.com if you have a pretty good grasp of English. There might be ways to translate otherwise, I've just never tried. It's relatively inexpensive and there are tutorials for ANYTHING design-related. YouTube has a few tidbits for sure. TutsPlus has some pretty decent tutorials, too. Honestly, the best medicine is to just jump in and start playing. It's so much more intuitive now than it was a decade ago. :)

Is it so rare to use other editing programs? I do a lot of free programs such as PhotoScape, although most often I use FastStone. GIMP is also pretty good, although my experience with it is very limited.
