Here in Oz cake is usually sweet fluffy carby stuff as described above, but our pies are generally full of yummy meat not sweet stuff.
Protein is better than carbs so pies win over cakes.

Where does cheesecake fit in? I love plain, New York style cheesecake with nothing on top. That's my fave.

Overall, I prefer cake. Pie filling is great but I don't care much for crust. I like pumpkin and french apple (the kind with raisins & icing).
