"NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi will begin his annual ritual of 'nakkoda' fasting that he has been observing every navratri for the past 35 years - nine days of drinking only water and strict adherence to yoga, meditation and puja at dusk - a day before he leaves for a five-day visit to the US on September 26. Modi fasts on both navratris - spring and autumn. The act, he has said in his book, Saakshibhav and in his blog, is his yearly self-purification exercise that gives him strength and ability to converse with 'Ambe ma' every night. .."

That means during all through his stay in the US, Modi will subsist on water and perhaps fruit juices (I am not too sure about that since tangy fruits also may not be acceptable, orange, pineapple, etc. Perhaps will attend lunches and dinners, but will not eat anything.

Modi charmed the Indian diaspora at Madison Square Garden and a few others too. Fifth day just on hot water, three more days to go.

At Central Park, Gujarati Muslims at Madison Square, House-full at Madison Square.

He did not speak a word of Gujarati, otherwise he would have literally brought the house down. I remember, it is like we (Indians) asked Shiekh Mujib-ur-Rehman to speak in Bengali and he consented.

"Today I was very honored to have the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Modi, where I presented him with a gift of my personal copy of the Bhagavad Gita. Nothing could have been more special and valuable to me than this Gita which I have had with me since a child, and which I took shelter of in the war zones of the Middle East, and upon which I placed my hand when I took the took Congressional oath of office.

It is said that the greatest gift you can give someone is that which is of the greatest value to you, because it is a personal sacrifice to give up something which is very dear to you. So my presenting of my personal Bhagavad Gita to the Prime Minister was my way of expressing just how deep my affection and love is for India, for the Prime Minister, and for the people of India who he represents."

There was a protest against Modi for his role in Riots against Minority

Protests against Modi in US
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rockstar-like reception at all the events he attended in the United States of America but protests outside Madison Square Garden, where he addressed Indian diaspora, and the one outside the White House, where he met US President Barack Obama, shows he still remains a controversial leader.

On September 29, several hundred anti-Modi protesters, mostly Americans of Indian descent, both Hindu and Muslim, gathered across the street from Madison Square Garden, chanting behind police barricades, "Modi, Modi, you can't hide, you committed genocide!"....

Can't please 'em all. 18 000 supporters inside MSG, and a hundred or so detractors outside. Nobody ever gets 100% support.

It's practically common knowledge that Khalistani separatists, Muslim rigorists, and Indo-seculars are largely not fond of Modi---it's hardly news.

"Modi, Modi, you can't hide, you committed genocide!"

... ignorantly chant the peeps that mostly have supported the Congress Party, the very party that has had---under its belt---the biggest and most catastrophic episodes of communal violence and rioting that India has ever experienced---episodes which the party could have easily controlled and maintained. More importantly, the Supreme Court of India found Modi not guilty.

This is the very court that has historically been the stooge of the Indian National Congress; and this is the very court that found Modi not guilty when the Congress Party was still in [influental-like] charge. Yet, the chanters of such a horrid slogan refuse to acknowledge these realities. If it was someone else, say, Rahul Gandhi or even Sonia for that matter, these are the dudes that would vigorously fund a "Gandhi was found innocent" campaign, vehemently lambasting any criticism of the contrary; yet, the ruling of the Supreme Freakin' Court of Freakin' India doesn't matter because such a ruling does not conform with nor assist their preconceived, neo-imperialist, anti-national perspectives.

And just think of it, these are those that have largely supported the very dudes that have ruled India since 1947---only to see their great pseudo-secular dynasty crumble and fall after viewing BJP & NDA acquire a winning and decisive mandate. India is a youth-majority; and a vast majority of that youth have voted en masse for Modi. In other words, a crapload of people in India no longer want politicians that fancy a Swiss Bank account; they no longer desire rulers that engage in vote-bank politics and unnecessary appeasement. They desire socio-economic progress, which has been Modi's vision since day one.

I think that when India sees its upcoming economic upturn start bearing fruits, many will turn.

One of the Gujarati women I met in the hospital kept telling me about the lack of corruption in Gujarat. Imagine an India without bribery! It wouldn't be the same. Just while travelling, Average Kumar wouldn't have to have that extra stack of rupee notes in his pocket. I could walk through a temple without seeing security guards palms face up all the time, and actually concentrate on the deity.

And then, the Sikhs who went to US seeking asylum come back to Modi and request him to ease the visa requirements for them. Want to have the cake and eat it too. Don't ever forget the Hindus killed first in Gujarat and Punjab. We also have the right to get angry and react.
