Police unions pull out of Dolphins game over anthem issue

The Swastika has been used by many cultures around the world and at times were incorporated into religions for over 12,000 years and other symbols such as Nordic runes had a very long history as well long before they were adopted by the Nazis.

Swastika + Hindu temple is very different to swastika + 'white pride' slogans

They are not victims nor do they claim victimhood but I will admit that they have adopted benign ancient symbols that have an unfortunate recent history, as as far as being positive, civic minded folks, that does apply.

And that 'unfortunate recent history' in no way played any part in their choice to use them...

Thou art That
To these 'protesters' (I use the term lightly, I mean how much social issues a person can face when you have a 1 mil a year plus paycheck), maybe you, but not me or the majority.

What's Trump got to do with it? Nothing... This is just an attempt to deflect the conversation to whatever narrative fits your cognitive biases.

Pardon me while I step aside while the rest of you throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are small problems that can easily be fixed, it's not like the whole 'way' of doing things is wrong.

Trump wants to go back to what he and others think was a time when the flag meant something. They cling to an America that never quite jelled. They feel threatened by people who see that change is necessary, a change away from racism, inequality, greed, and perpetual war for profit.

Police officers in South Florida are being urged by their unions not to buy Dolphins tickets, or ask for refunds if they’ve already purchased tickets, as a result of Dolphins players kneeling during the national anthem before the preseason opener.

“The Broward County PBA recently offered our members discounts to a Miami Dolphins game because that franchise said they were going to honor all First Responders,” the Broward County Police Benevolent Association said on Facebook. “We entered into this partnership with the understanding that the Dolphins organization would require their players to stand for the National Anthem. This did not happen at last night’s preseason game against Tampa Bay. As a result, the BCPBA will no longer participate in this ticket program, and we are asking all of our members, as well as members of the Dade County PBA and Palm Beach County PBA, not to participate either. If you have already purchased tickets to this game, we encourage you to call the Dolphins ticket office to request a refund because this organization obviously DOES NOT honor First Responders and the dangers they put themselves in every day.”

The Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association posted the same message.

Dolphins Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson kneeled and Robert Quinn raised a fist before Thursday night’s game. Players have said they are protesting during the anthem to bring attention to civilians killed by police officers.

I find the irony of protesting a protest.....

The Union should have never gotten involved. It should be a choice made an individual level.

Isn't it kinda their fault that they are taking a knee in the first place?

Owners are to blame too. In this case the Dolphin ownership made a deal with organizations and created an event. The owners didn't or wouldn't instruct their employees to act in a way seen as supportive to the event, it's cause and the people involved. Ownership was short-sighted. It cost them profits and some PR.

So, in essence, both the police and the protesters agree on exactly the same thing: They don't want innocent people to get shot.

But by failing to back a protest against innocent people being shot, it makes the police look like they want to have the power to go around shooting people indiscriminately. They're against the idea of people protesting or questioning what they do. They're against transparency and accountability. At least, that's what it looks like.

This has been my point for awhile though -- they want the same thing, so why the disrespect? Most of law enforcement is against excessive force and violence already that's why most of them entered that career in the first place.

However, I disagree with the notion that being against something means that you're for something else. Nothing is that simple... This is like saying the people who protest police violence are for having no police. :D Only fools would extend that line of thought that far.

From my understanding taking a knee during the anthem, is the result of decades and decades of police brutality, and little being done about it. In fact nothing has been done about it. And the courts that oversee cases that actually make it to a courthouse are presided over by a system that include the police departments, so technically they are settled in house by their own peers. And due to the blue code very few police officers are convicted of excessive force/murder.

The blue code needs to end in order to make substantial progress.

Even society need to end the practice being anti-tattletale, the whole snitches get stitches idea permeates society. Don't rat on your friends even if it conflicts with your moral compass. Is seen as a bad thing to do.
