Politicians and covid mandates

You're right. Let's not take measures to protect the population. Let's embrace the impending wave of death this second wave will bring, becaue it's been made into a political talking point. Only 75 nine eleven's worth of people have died so far. Let's go for broke!

Scrap our defence, ie the military; ban seat-belts in cars; don't have safe crossing zones in towns; get rid of the police... Freedom is great without people telling us what to do

The purpose of government is to "impose mandates" that protect us from each other. Because history has shown that we humans will not respect each other's well-being, willingly. And yet we must do so to live together, successfully.

Are these politicians who impose mandates upon the rest of us just plain hypocrites ...

I have a wonderful family which includes 14 grandchildren. I would much, much rather that they live in a world run by such people than a world informed by twisted, malignant scum like Tucker Carlson.

Yikes! Politicians are hypocrites!? Guess it is OK for me to infect others then.
I didn't read that intent in the OP.
Rather that politicians should do more than talk the talk...walk the walk.

Reminds me of Obama's preaching that we should all take AGW seriously.
But I calculated that a week in Hawaii for his family of 4 burned 100,000
gallons of jet fuel. Just like Trump & his associates eschewing masks,
such behavior sets a pretty bad example, eh.

My advice to all...
If you believe it, live it.

My advice to politicians....
Same as above, but know that we're watching.

I've been running a fever for the past several days, went to urgent care yesterday, got tested for Covid-19, as my symptoms could be Covid. Naturally, I'm concerned. They say 3-5 days before the results come back. In the meantime, I've been given a doctor's order to quarantine in order to not possibly infect others.

So, let me ask, do you live anywhere in Minnesota? I'd be happy to drive over to meet you at a coffee shop, sit at a table with you, not wearing a mask, if you honestly believe that garbage you drink from the trough of the reality deniers on Faux News. Let's put your beliefs to the test. Shall we?

I didn't think so. Not even you really believe that nonsense. If you do, where should we meet? (I wouldn't actually expose you like that, because I'm not a heartless narcissist).

I was curious about claims regarding "Faux News", so I searched & found a sample....
Coronavirus: What you need to know
US reports over 71,000 new coronavirus cases, highest single-day increase since July
Special Report
What do you object to?

I already had.
What do you object to in Fox News coverage?
(I don't watch'm so I'm curious what misinfo there is.)
Did you read the rest of the replies? Seems I'm hearing what they were hearing. Why are singling me out?

The underlying message of the OP, is "why should we listen to these mandates, when even they don't on occasion". Correct? That's what everyone else heard too. It is communicating, all these mask madantanes are silly. Why should we listen, when we see them not doing it. It's trying to discredit the mandate. That's clear.

You're just lucky.
But I was curious about Fox News coverage.
So I asked.

Taking the OP at face value, I didn't infer that message.

If you want a real example of a politician who doesn't care until the hospital system is at the breaking point, look at my home state. My apologies, but I'll take real, actual mask mandates and then politicians acting irresponsibly in their personal lives over a governor who STILL REFUSES to issue a real mask mandate.

You seem to be alone in that understanding. Everyone else heard what I did. An attempt to discredit all these mask mandates, but citing these reality deniers on Faux, wagging their tongues like an old bitty, at the supposed hypocrisy of those who say they are necessary. It is communicating, "Why should we listen to them?". In other words, "I'm right in ignoring these mandates." My post was intended to put that to the test, seeing if she is willing to meet me without a mask on, since I've been told to quarantine.

My lot in life.
Everyone else heard what I did.
Sometimes people base an inference from what they expect
from a particular person belonging to a particular group.
Could be what happened here.

Anything to object to in the Fox News links I provided?
I begin to wonder if they're really the problem that the left believes.

Misreading everything? That's unfortunate. :)

No, there is also a clear history of denialism from the poster of OP. I think people can read quite quickly where it's coming from. Fair and balanced approaches, are not a thing historically speaking.

I personally find this artificial left vs. right rhetoric to be a smokescreen. There are plenty of conservatives, a great many of them, who like those on the left, are not so immersed in their ideologies as to become reality-deniers. It's the extremes who can't face the facts, and make all manner of illogical rationalizations to not accept them, such as you hear with folks like Tucker Carlson, and such.

Personally, I consider myself a moderate, with left leaning tendencies. Those whom I respect on the Republican side, are moderates too, only with right-leaning tendencies. I see that as a necessary balance. And I respect their views, even when I don't personally agree with them.

But these wacko deniers, who take to the airways promoting denialism, are not representative of the middle. They are extremists. Those who are on the even more extreme ends, deny things like the Holocaust, Climate Change, and this Virus. But I'm sure, at some point, they might drink that Kool-Aid too and deny the Holocaust. They are certainly primed to be pushed that far, lacking critical thinking tools. They are easily led by propaganda.

I hope & pray that you don't have the virus, but if you do that you get rid of it quickly. Please keep us posted.
