Politicians and covid mandates

Then why are these politicians who implement measures meant to protect people ignoring them themselves? Are they or the people they associate with immune and above the mandates others are required to follow?

Politicians are hypocrites. They have no moral authority whatsoever.

I can't argue with idiocy. It's willfully illogical and nonsensical.

The Constitution does not give any citizen the right to endanger his fellow citizens in the name of freedom. That's the whole point of freedom being EQUAL. We are each as free, AND AS RESTRAINED, as the other, for the sake of everyone's well-being. And because we humans are selfish, and stupid, and will infringe the rights of our fellow citizens in pursuit of our own selfish desires, we have establish governments, and we have writen laws, and we instituted police forces to enforce those laws, to protect us from each other's selfish ignorance, greed, and stupidity.

Without these governments, and their laws, and their enforcement of those laws, human societies fall into chaos, and brutality, and all manner of horrific suffering and abuse.

Moral authority is irrelevant. They have LEGAL authority, given to them by WE THE PEOPLE. They are acting on our collective behalf, with our collective approval, and in our collective best interest.

Hmm, you're right! My apologies about getting carried away there. I assumed incorrectly about the point of the thread. :)

Those in power don't seem to be subject to the same rules that the rest of us in society seem to be held to. It is hypocritical for sure!

That said... Is anyone in power exempt from this kind of hypocrisy? As far as I know, it's one of those kind of things that seems pretty universal, no matter the political party. What actual consequences are there for bending or breaking the law for those with sway? If you have enough power and money, the answer is: none. The problem is compounded when you have a political system that's rooted in money...

I'm not sure anything can be done to change the nature of this reality. It's already too deeply entrenched.

Hypocritical people, as you say. Our PM and ex senior advisor are perfect examples, but given the threat, we should ignore their "examples."
 
A quarantine is a stay at home order, no? SCOTUS upheld the states right to quarantine.

Eh--not exactly IMO. Quarantining certain communities or neighborhoods from other communities and restricting travel is different from putting entire states under effective house arrest. Thankfully, most of these orders are not rigidly enforced. If they were, there would certainly be fierce backlash.

I have a wonderful family which includes 14 grandchildren. I would much, much rather that they live in a world run by such people than a world informed by twisted, malignant scum like Tucker Carlson.
Did you even watch the video or are you merely displaying ignorant bias? Who are you to label someone, Tucker Carlson, or anyone as “twisted malignant scum”? I find such derogatory caricatures disgusting; so totally distorted and out of touch with reality ... unless referring to someone like a sex trafficker, child molester, or serial murderer.
It’s sad that you want your wonderful family living under the rule of such blatant hypocrites, but that is your choice.
If you didn’t bother to watch or read the included links and reasonably consider the actual content or point being made, then don’t feel the need to bother with any further response.

I've been running a fever for the past several days, went to urgent care yesterday, got tested for Covid-19, as my symptoms could be Covid. Naturally, I'm concerned. They say 3-5 days before the results come back. In the meantime, I've been given a doctor's order to quarantine in order to not possibly infect others.

So, let me ask, do you live anywhere in Minnesota? I'd be happy to drive over to meet you at a coffee shop, sit at a table with you, not wearing a mask, if you honestly believe that garbage you drink from the trough of the reality deniers on Faux News. Let's put your beliefs to the test. Shall we?

Personally, I don’t go out when I’m sick and that’s been my habit since way before this present coronavirus. So the invite to coffee with you while you’re sick is a irrational, nonsensical response and tells me you likely didn’t watch or read the the links, nor give any kind of intelligence thought or consideration to the subject.

That is very obvious, sadly.

And a perfect example of why the attitude of so many reminds me of characters in the 1984 novel where all information was filtered through the so called “truth ministry” and people had their daily dose of hate. Any other alternative thought or actual reality was forbidden.

So you cited these ultra-right deniers, why? To prove that when people promote masks, yet are found on occasion to not be doing the best practices, what they say is meaningless? What exactly was your point? I really do not care to have the poison of Tucker's mind enter my mindspace. I've heard enough of his drivel to know he is just in it for ratings, not for your well-being. You always seem to be attracted to this extreme voices, not voices of reason.

Do you think masks should be mandated, or left up to the individual whether or not they think what scientists say has any merit? If the latter, that is what is stupid, beyond words.

That's also "freedom of assembly" going by how you're using it.

Obviously you didn't reread the Preamble, which states "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." [note the underlined part]

The government can and has passed laws and e.o.'s that can help protect Americans, thus some "freedoms" can and have been restricted at various governmental levels. And if your supposed "freedom" can harm your own family through your carelessness, then I feel truly sorry for them.
