What did that have to do with the everyday choices posted?
There would be no choices. They would just be another person until I had the impression that I was the object of their lust. Normaly a simple disscussion should end this misconception.

So far, by the poll results, showering and/or nudity is #1 on the list of what persons would refuse to do in the presence of a homosexual. Some of you also wrote that you would refuse to shower or be nude in front of anyone but yourself or your partner.

That is common.

Do you think showering or being nude in the presence of someone who is homosexual would make you feel any more uncomfortable (than being nude in front of someone who is heterosexual and of your same gender)?

Another reason people may have voted for certain ones is that they have never actually experienced them (to their knowledge) and they feel uncomfortable with the idea -- but it may just happen to be that they are just fine with it when it happens. That's how I voted, I feel uncomfortable about the idea, but some of the ones I didn't vote for I've experienced and they don't bother me now.

Honestly, yes. I've never had the experience (as far as I know), so the idea does make me uncomfortable, but then again, I'd never shower in front of anyone.

from my interpretation of the poll the acts are passive in nature which means you are in the same vicintity of the gay person as opposed to actively ingaged in some way with the gay person.

True... And you were right about the public showering thing too (i.e. gyms, locker rooms, military, etc.).

I didn't vote for any of the choices offered, it is really no concern of mine what someone does behind closed doors as long as they are not hurting others or themselves.

So far, in the poll results, of the people who have submitted answers to the poll (asking what would you refuse to do in the presence of someone that you knew was gay), 100% answered that you would refuse to shower with that person.

I would like to ask you all--even those of you who have not taken the poll--to think about those results and apply it to how you feel about open homosexuality in the military.

This is the part where things get a little more uncomfortable--I know...I've been there, done that.

I think most of get the idea that it is uncomfortable to be a homosexual in the military, we may not understand it entireley, but we get the idea that the militaries rules and how it act is wrong.

I can't respond to the poll because there are some things I won't do in front of another person (like go #2)..

I was in the Marines, so, I have,
-Showered with an entire platoon of women
-camped with an entire platoon full of women
-undressed in front of and walked around practically naked in front of an entire platoon of women
-talked about intimate or sexual issues
So, I'm not really shy...and wasn't shy or bothered back then..

Some of these women were gay and no one really cared...

As for the rest of the options..I don't discriminate.

Without derailing this thread, I hoped to simply put forth some thoughts...as a means of provoking thinking and stuff...

It is not my intention to resurrect another debate within this thread.

(That was my own fault of sorts... and I'd like to head it off at the pass while I can. Thanx.)

And I am still interested in your thoughts concerning your personal levels of comfortability concerning being around gays.

I know I'm not comfortable, but that's because I haven't been put in those situations, but that defintley doesn't make me intolerant or homophobic.

There is no discrimination when it comes to war, nobody takes the time to ask you your likes or dislikes before they kill you; so the military should be following suit since the main objective of joining them is to serve and protect

Right and I agree.

But my hope is not to derail this thread in that direction. I was merely posting points to ponder.

this is a private poll, as opposed to a public one, so i can't see who voted for what... but the results at the moment show that each option has been ticked.

i'm just wondering, is it that someone has thought they are supposed to tick the things they are willing to do with someone they know to be gay? or is that someone really won't do things like shopping and eating with someone they know to be gay?

What a heterosexual would REFUSE to do with someone that they knew was gay...

Personally, I have NOT taken the poll. The only poll results are from people who would refuse to do any of the mentioned things on the poll.

In retrospect, I should have had an opt-out button. Sorry about that.

yes, i know what the poll is for, i was just wondering if someone had gotten confused and thought you had to tick the things that you would do, or if someone actually would refuse to do those things...

I take my nakeness as something private and I have all of my life. I am not afraid to be naked with my woman but it is not for publc display.I am not ashamed of my nakedness and if put in certain circumstances I could swing it around and show off too.
