Pope apologizes for losing patience with hand-shaker who yanked him

Crowds of people do carry lots of germs, this should be considered as a legitimate health risk. High fives or bump fist greetings instead of traditional handshake greetings between the Pope and the masses would indeed reduce the risk of the Pope getting sick.
Anybody who gets involved with real people and real problems is taking a risk. It might even cost you something.

It's the Christian thing to do.
At least that's what my Christian teachers taught me.
Doesn't seem to be what Christians believe or teach nowadays.

I'd name some names. But that isn't the kind of RF rule I'm inclined to break.

Please be aware handshakes are more of a health risk than kissing for spreading infectious bacteria.

Handshakes more dangerous than kissing! | MY HEALTH CENTRE

Hence, we can now agree my idea of the Pope greeting crowds of people with bump fists or high fives is better than the notion of the Pope shaking hands with onlookers.
No, we dont agree. I dont appreciate yoi putting words in mouth and assuming what I think. I am as oposed to the Pope doing fist bumps over silly hygiene concerns as I am people using anti-bacterial lotions for more than in a pinch/no soap and water available. Or how we use anti-biotics. We have immune systems for bad germs, and our silly fear of germs indiscriminately kills bacteria we need with those we dont, it evolves the bad to become treatmemt resistant, and our immune system gets lazy.

The Pope is typically old, and more likely to have a weaker than normal immune system; also who knows where some of those hands shaken by the Pope have been. I think out of consideration for the Pope's fragility, people should greet the Pope with fist bumps rather than hand shakes.

but if someone shakes hands constantly all their life, do they have better immune systems than other people?

Well, I can kind of understand how something like this can happen. Some starstruck fans can get pushy.

So in the nbc segment today, one reporter said something kind of bizarre though, that the pope is being criticized for 'turning up his nose at traditional expressions of devotion from the public.' What does that mean?

Pushy? He almost lost his balance but she didn't care. Terrible. Just shows ya what crazy and sick people there are in this world.
I'm not sure it's fair to call her crazy and sick. Remember, the Pope's the guy who goes around saying that he's God's appointed messenger on earth, and it's not hard to understand why someone who would believe such a thing may be struck into irrational behavior by their mere presence. I mean, women attempted to tear the clothes off the Beatles if they came within a few feet of them, so I think a woman losing all self control while holding the hand of the living embodiment of God's will might not quite be a display of sickness or insanity than it is a display of reasonable hysteria.

Sorry, I didn't mean to speak on your behalf. I was just wanting to be presumptuous that you'd likely agree with me based on information of which I've provided regarding how hand shaking spreads more germs than how kissing spreads germs.

The Pope gave a homily afterwards about respect towards women.

...I think he genuinely regrets the whole situation. I'm sure the woman does too. Moving on.

The woman deserved the light slap, that's for sure - the whole situation reeks of self defense, honestly. Sounds like the woman was just frothing at the mouth to get some attention from "The Pope." Disgusting.

I don't really agree with the Pope here. The lady in question, she probably was star struck but what she did was still rude and he has nothing to apologize for in my opinion. It would have been better, I think, to remind people about self-control and the fact no matter who the human is they are still human.

Especially given the modern climate.
Francis is willing to take some big risks when it comes to public appearances. But attempts to assassinate the Pope have happened before. I'd be pretty jumpy if I were him.

Look, my comment: It's a sad, sad world.

Rude? She yanked him, no doubt about it. Ridiculous, sick, and sad. Did I mention sad?

What makes you think she regrets the situation? The look on her face after he slapped her hand (obviously in self defense) was not regretful, as far as I could see in the video. Sad and disgusting that anyone would behave like that. The Beatles are one thing when people pulled their clothes off, although bad enough. But to yank an old man, causing him to lose his balance, no matter how much a person reveres him is truly abominable. Just sad.

Yes, rude, because in general I hate arguing semantics when it's understood what is said. I dont have to say "ridiculous and sick" just to say someone was rude.

Have you been able to control your emotions and reactions 100% of the time? Do you never get excited and behave in unexpected ways? Do you just sometimes loose yourself?

OK, that's you. What the woman did, even though I do not revere the Pope or think he's God's representative on earth, is sick. There simply is no excuse. Of course evidently in your mind there is seemingly an excuse for her behavior. But I can understand his reaction. You don't have to say ridiculous and sick. I will say it. Because I believe it is. Sad, too. And horrible for anyone to show such disregard for another person, Pope or not. If you don't think what the woman did is sick, ridiculous, and awful, that's you.

From your desire for Satan to teach you, that's your thing I guess.

Nope. I just realize people are not perfect, amd see this as likely being inappropriate but probably not in control at the time. People are dumb, they do stupid things, and our actions do nt always reflect intention or character. Sometimes we just do weird things.
