Choosing pets over babies is ‘selfish and diminishes us’, says pope

I don't particularly care what he says, since personal choice is a thing, but coming from someone who doesn't have children (that we know of) this is interesting
Does he know how much it costs and how hard it is to raise a child? Does he live on the same planet as most of us?

There are literally more humans beings alive today than ever before. At what point will these folks stop shaming people for not having babies?

Of course Francis has never fathered a child or adopted a child, so he gives him and other clergy an out with some comments about "spiritual" fatherhood. But hey, if "spiritual parenthood" applies, then so does being an aunt, uncle, cousin, mentor, teacher, coach, or any other form of oversight or teaching or counseling of others.

I think he's misrepresenting pet owners, too. I have 10 cats, and I still wanted children.

He also seems out of touch with how difficult it is to adopt. Unless you've got a truck load of cash, its not happening here in the US.

The other aspect to this idea is that it attempts to further distance us from nature, as if we're somehow independent of the natural world. Another bad idea from the church, sigh.

Bergoglio maybe ignores that in Europe we have the lowest birth rates in the world because of the Euro-system that prevents governments from implementing policies which favor permanent employment.

With that kind of employment, European youth will start making babies again.

So...dear Mister Bergoglio, they have pets because that's what they can afford.

Maybe he's comparing rescuing a pet from an animal shelter and rescuing a child from an orphanage, or from the abortionist.

And there's the over-population thing denuding our
seas of life, & wiping out natural spaces. Do we
really need to increase our numbers? Does he see
no limit, or does he not care about environmental
degradation.
Clearly, we need a new Pope...an atheist would be best.
Will I get the call? I'm qualified.
I was once The Pope on the History Channel forums.

Policies there don't favor permanent employment? What's that look like.

Yeah raising pets properly isn't easy. And raising kids isn't easy either. Also one can learn lessons in caring for others, unconditional love, and patience, from either endeavor.

We are overpopulated and under regulated to ensure everyone is properly supplied to meet their needs. Not to mention climate degradation.

Having kids right now is the more selfish move imo.

I guess both small businesses and big firms are taxated so much, that they are forced to prefer defined term contracts for their employees.

But taxation is due to the high interest rates of the Euro.
Inflation is artificially kept at a very low level, and since the euro will not be devalued, it is employment which is being devalued.
The Philipps Curve explains it.
Low Inflation = High unemployment.

It is just the consequence that the youth are more and more responsible.
We have definitely crossed the line.
As for the exploitation of the resources of mother Earth, and we take for granted things like electricity.
But most electricity is produced through exhaustible resources.
