Porn for your bible!

I was listening to the news this morning on the radio, when the topic of Porn for Bibles came up. Evidentally a group from UTSA is trading porn for bibles. It was probably publicised more where I live (Texas), since these are Texas students that are offerring this. Just didn't know if anyone else had seen this. Any thoughts?

A group of atheists at UTSA was asking students to exchange bibles for porn magazines Wednesday, and that has made some religious leaders angry. News 4 WOAI first broke the story at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

To be fair, here is the response from the group that is offerring this: http://www.atheistagenda.org/porno-for-bibles/

I personally see this as a good move, to try to cleanse the minds of this dirty minded, bible bashing bunch:biglaugh:. If you read the bible, you should actually realise that it is a lot worse than any pornography.:D

LOL. Porn for Bibles? I guess there are 2 ways to look at this. The way I choose to is some people are maybe giving up porn to study the word of God. Seeing the Atheists have no use for the Bible, now maybe someone will get some use out of it. It's not such a bad thing. ;)

meh...
Unless you had stolen the Bible in question from a hotel room, I don't think it is a very economical trade.

The only thing I can think of is that reading porn magazines would involve a much smaller vocabulary................and I guess there might be more pictures than in the Bible.

(not, of course that I would know anything about pornography.......:D )

I once heard that listening to Bush was like trying to read a porno book with your wife turning the pages.... Just can't get a good read! ;)

SAN ANTONIO — A group of atheists at the University of Texas at San Antonio is putting a novel twist on the toys-for-guns programs run by many urban police departments. But instead of toys, they are handing out porn in exchange for bibles.

“We consider the bible to be a very negative force in the history of the world,” student Ryan Walker said. Walker is part of a student group that calls itself the Atheist Agenda.

Club members this week posted fliers promoting what they call the “Smut for Smut” campaign then set up a table in the student union to collect religious materials and pass out adult magazines such as Black Label and Playboy.

The group is not officially sanctioned by the university and has raised the ire of several religious organizations on campus.

“In my opinion, there are no atheists. There are fools,” Pastor Rick Hawkins of UTSA’s Family Praise Center said. “So, that would be foolish propaganda. I don't know one believer that would take his Bible and turn it in for pornography.”

Hawkins obviously didn’t stop by the Atheist Agenda table, where several students had dropped off copies of the good book and walked away with skin mags.

Athiest Agenda isn’t the first student group to explore the idea of introducing porn to former bible toters. Members say they got the idea from students in Austin who ran a similar pro-porn drive. Walker added that members thought it sounded like a creative way to exercise their freedom of speech.

I find this extremely immature, counter-productive, and stupid. Ironically, the people who are going to be hurt most by this are atheists. :banghead3

I agree that it is stupid, but it's funny. I would imagine the looks on some peoples faces on that campus when they first heard that would be just as dumb.

What I don't get is the legality of the whole thing. How are they able to hand out porn, for free, in public, and get away with it. ACLU is probably heavily involved with enforcing this one. Probably have ACLU police standing by to enforce the right to freedom of speech, in case someone gives them a hard time. ACLU is above the law, it seems. The rest of us seem to have no rights. It's probably illegal to hand out Bibles on a college campus, but it's perfectly legal to hand out porn in exchange for a Bible.

Playboy is completley legal. That's what they are handing out.

I forgot for a minute that the rest of the Untited States does not have strict laws, like we have, here in Utah. Something like this would be illegal here in Utah on any college campus, not just BYU. I don't think you have a legal right to do what they did on any college campus in Utah. The laws are a lot more strict here. Playboy is not allowed to be displayed in public, here in Utah. I am pretty sure on this.
