Pornography poll

Should pornography be bannes? If so, is it because or partially because it exploits women?

Well, we know how the men voted.

That's kind of sexist. It's an open poll so there is no secret about who voted for what. There are men and women votes cast for all options (except the one with option, but I'm pretty sure that was just a sarcastic vote). I'm actually kind of offended that you would just assume all men would vote one way or the other.

That's too bad, isn't it.

Yeah, because not a single woman in the world watches porn, and all of us filthy sub-human men are all the same, right? Yeah, because that's definitely not a generalization at all.:sarcastic

The title of the article you had posted is a prime example of sensationalism in journalism. “Porn warped his mind…” Magically, pixels on a computer monitor somehow twisted this boy’s mind to such an extent that he could not function normally. These pixels actually robbed this sweet innocent boy of his free will. If I didn’t know better, I would say the demon porn possessed his very soul. This demon is so powerful no one can escape his clutches. Each of us is at his mercy. This young boy is not responsible for his own actions. The guilty culprit is the porn. Yeah right, it’s like a drug addict blaming the drug for his addiction.

You might want to consult the free will topic currently in play.

Salam. That young boy is not at the intellectual age to be responsible for his actions. You can't blame a kid if he took the drug. You would blame the men who put the drug in a place the kid can reach. And pornography is accessible to kids, with the ads even on game sites. That should be fixed. (As freethinker44 said, I agree. And I blame the parents who don't educate about sex and supervise them, but I think this is not enough as we know there are people who are not great at parenting). Anyway, I think Gjallarhorn is suggesting that you join this thread too: www.religiousforums.com/forum/general-debates/159644-debate-free-will.html ma salam

The point I was making is that the writer of the story was using journalistic sensationalism. Jami could just have been a teen, young man, middle age man or old man. The writer preys on the readers emotions to convey his story. Jami at any age should take responsibility for his actions. Any parent would tell his or her child the same. What’s the worst that can happen now to this child that he has viewed pornography? Is he going to grow up into some sort of sexual deviant?

Music and video games even have ratings. Are children better off now? When I was child music did not have ratings. I don’t think the people from my generation are any worse than then the children of today. Maybe I was lucky.

Never have I come across any statistics that show music, movies or pictures can harm a child.

I think that kid, if he's telling the truth, has deeper issues than just watching porn. Where did he learn about zoophilia? Where did find child porn? Despite what people may think, it's very hard to come across child porn. I have seen almost all of the nasty stuff you can think of that the Internet has to offer, but I have never come across child porn. It's very underground and kept secret. It's a lot easier (and legal) to find horrific murder videos than it is to find child porn. I'm thinking that kid was probably abused.

I knew about porn and sex long before I hit puberty and I'm not in any danger of being a sex offender.

Interesting. I picked the least popular poll option.

I don't feel like explaining logically why I think pornography should be banned. My internal persona & various emotions simply find it conflicting, abnormal.

On the topic of exploitation, I'm curious as to why exploiting women was involved in the poll. I think pornography is more exploitive of its viewers - which is a predominantly male audience. I'm unwilling to support the claim that the actors are being exploited, whether male or female, since they consent to it.

Don't viewers consent?

There are far too many examples of children & adolescents, not of a proper consenting age, that have been hooked into viewing it. Beyond that, there are plenty of individuals in adulthood that feel vulnerable and experience a cognitively dissonant relationship with it.

A world free of voyeurism sounds like utopia to me...

In usa, we all have our own free choices to make, if a woman wishes to be in porn, its all on her.
(yes I know that sickos exploit run away girls, different subject)

I will prob be hated for this, but women pretty much do this to themselves, when going into porn by choice.
They spend huge amounts of time and money on make up and all that beauty stuff.
They claim it is mans fault, but most men prefer a natural looking female over one that is in full make up, and all that stuff.
I know I do, I would rather have a female with no breasts then one with fake ones.

Take working out and getting buff, men are all not competing for strong man of the world award type stuff, some do , some don't care about that stuff.
I don't know of there being an illness for men, that is a huge issue, like the ones women suffer over beauty.

From birth, most females treat their daughters like beauty queens and even buy them fake make up before they even start school.
Whose fault is that again?

Why should my right as an adult to view porn be taken away because some minors or adults may abuse it? People abuse alcohol and cigarettes, too. Should those be banned? If you don't like porn, don't watch it. It's simple, really.

Unless you're a voyeur. A better would would be one where people don't restrict the choices of others because some are irresponsible.

I don't see what makeup has to do with porn.

I guess I took the exploit women too far in the subject and over talked the point I was making.

My logic is not contradictory, for alcohol & cigarettes would be banned as well. The amount of so-called "positives" you experience from such behaviors are far outweighed by their negations.

Unless you're a voyeur. A better would would be one where people don't restrict the choices of others because some are irresponsible.
The best possible world would be one that openly criticizes, and dare I say demonizes, negative behaviors. It would not be ruled by majorities or mere mainstream opinions. It would be ruled by irrefutable philosophies and irreducible, scientific facts.

The vast majority of evidences & arguments available on pornography & voyeurism have defeated the notion that it is a positive behavior. Granted, the world we experience is complete crass compared to any imagined utopia, so for the time being I don't criticize it heavily - satiate your sexuality as responsibly as possible.

In a perfect world, however, I would say that sexuality would be best satiated through private, monogamous relationships. There is no need to expand sexuality into music, film, or other arts. At that point, it is oversaturation; a gluttony of the mind.
