Post/message count

Does your post/message count matter to you? If so, why?

I ask because I struggle to understand why someone might create a thread of the type ...
  • Could God have four thumbs?
or
  • Are whooping cranes birds?
In some cases such a thread might be created to not-so-subtly mock a previous effort, but I can't help but wonder if, in other instances, they result from a desire to boost one's message count.

Why would a desire to boost message count necsesitate the creation of innane threads? Couldn't one simply innanely respond to any and all active threads?

I think the reasons for these threads must lie elsewhere, but it`s beyond my ken.

Read your question again -- thoughtfully -- bearing in mind
  • I neither said nor suggested that desire would "necsesitate the creation of innane threads"(sic).
  • One should be able to think of any number of examples where one's desire is not matched by one's ability.

My post count is quite high, mostly because i continuously post inane babble (hey don't agree with me) on the humour threads but I've created very few thread's.

Do you have me in mind, Jay?

I do want to boost my post count

But to me it is more important that I make quality posts and decent OPs

Maybe some of my posts are better than others

But I don't make posts with the sole aim of boosting my post count I would never do that

I want to be active, not spammy

In the old software universe, we joked about who was on top of the daily, weekly... post count and sometimes had contests with a sentence being posted as a set of single letters --- friendly competition.

I would ascribe a number of threads as trolling to jerk people's chains. Perhaps not at the level for staff to take action but to me they were. There are other psychological motivations but I won't bore you with a list.
