Powerless over addiction

The first step to AA and Narcotics Anonymous is to admit that you are powerless over your addiction.

I thought I could kick it with willpower.

So confident in willpower, I promised my probation officer to never touch drugs not prescribed as long as he was PO.

I went from February 14th till roughly July 29th without using.

Problem is, there's a monster that comes out, and while that is dominating the brain, all resolutions and willpower cease.

Now I know to never make a promise again.

Without God to restore a person to sanity, some of us are hopeless!

Just wondering if you've ever tried to kick an addiction and realized you couldn't do it?

Willpower only means something while you're not double-minded or the same person you were while making the resolution.

Only people with addictions can understand the insanity.

Been there....done that !
It can be cured...takes a while...but it's worth it.
been straight for 18 yrs now,
except for a little smoke now and then.
Surprised ?
And I had 4 strokes...and some of me is gone.
But...I have Life and Stuff...and the pond.

I think what is meant is that you are powerless on your own to overcome an addiction. This opens you up to accepting help.

I'm pretty stubborn about accepting help myself. Takes a lot of humility and trust to put your recovery in the hands of someone else.

Finding seashells helps a lot,
and then there's turtles and stuff,
and flowers everywhere.
There's a lot Stuff out there,
and some of it is good,
hug it like the escaping `now`.

I'm surprised beings that you are in your 80's. How long have you smoked? Tobacco or marijuana?

Yes,
All we have is the present.

Seashells aren't found in these parts, but it's fun catching snapping turtles and snakes.

Prayers are thoughts of hope, that vanish in the wind.
Ahhhh...that something is there to hear them.
The volume of the words is not important,
just the thought matters, and the result,
but disappointment is usually following.
