Pride of Christendom, of what source ?

How was the simplicity and humility of Christ and the early Christians converted into the pride and pomp of Christendom?

The turning point for this change, according to British broadcaster Malcolm Muggeridge was Emperor Constantine’s so-called conversion to “Christianity.” in 313 C.E.
The foundation of Christendom was laid. As Muggeridge wrote in his book.[The End of Christendom] with Emperor Constantine.”

However, he also made the perceptive comment: “You might even say that Christ himself abolished Christendom before it began by stating that his kingdom was not of this world—one of the most far reaching and important of all his statements.” And one most widely ignored by Christendom’s religious and political rulers.—John 18:36

Elaine Pagels, a professor of religion, explains: With Constantine’s support, Christendom’s religion became the official State religion of Rome. “Christian bishops, once targets for arrest, torture, and execution, now received tax exemptions, gifts from the imperial treasury, prestige, and even influence at court; their churches gained new wealth, power, and prominence.” They had become friends of the emperor, friends of the Roman world, instead of friends of God.—James 4:4.

In view of the last 1700 years of history can we in good conscience substantiate the claim that, the power, prominence and high sounding titles of Christendom are of Divine origine ?

I like Elaine Pagels. I have many of her books. They are very informative.

Her book REVELATIONS, Visions, Prophecy, & Politics in the Book of Revelation, is particularly interesting.

Never much of a fan of muggeridge really.

In regards to divine origin it all depends how thats defined. we can discuss till we die never arrive at an adequate definition and the next generation can take it up and they to will not arrive at an adequate definition. And on and on it goes.
