I know this story was mentioned in a few other threads, but I thought it warranted its own because it's important that we discuss the serious threat marble peepees pose to society.
I’ve read most of the article. What happened was
one parent thought the image was pornographic. As a result, the principal had the choice of either resigning or being fired. In my not-so-humble opinion, the school board was in the wrong for that. Somebody should have kindly explained to the outraged parent the difference between pornography and a nude statue. If the parent doesn’t like it, tough. Unfortunately, the overall school system in the US never sides with the better individuals.
I live in Korea where the government filters the internet so that nobody here can see internet pornography. At my local neighborhood park, there is a nude statue of a woman. There is also a statue of a little girl on her knees leaning over a bench. Her skirt is raised and her panties are visible. Elsewhere, there are statues of nude chubby mothers with their nude children. I’ve even seen a large image of a nude Venus on the front of a store. As an American, I’m not the least bit upset over these sights.
P.S. In a textbook that I used to teach from here, there is an image of the Vitruvian Man as it is. None of my students, who are all Koreans, said a word about it. Back in the US, when I was a Christian, the progressive church that I went to once published a bulletin that had the Vitruvian Man on the front, and he was completely unmanned. I was upset about it.
