I'm surprised how many people are introverts! :)
Online discussion forums select for introverts. Here, we can interact with people but still maintain our own space. And participation requires more thinking about ideas/concepts than with people skills. I'm actually surprised that the E/I ratio isn't even more skewed than it is.

Ah! That explains why I have been here for so long; had this been a roomful of people, I would a) probably never have turned up in the first place or b) would have sat in once, never saying anything. Imagine that!:biglaugh:

So there is something positive about the internet!.

Then I guess since I'm an extrovert it just makes me a loud mouth. :)

I think that there is a misunderstanding here about what the terms "extrovert" and "introvert" mean. It's not just about whether someone is shy or loud. It is possible to be completely unshy and still be an introvert (me), just as it is possible to be shy and be an extrovert. The terms have more to do with where one gets one's "energy" from. That sounds like new-age mumbo-jumbo, but let me explain. Extroverts feel more energetic when they're with other people. The interaction gets them going. They could be incredibly shy around people that they don't know, but put them in the company of their friends and they come alive. Introverts feel more energetic when they're alone. They rely more on their internal thoughts than on interactions with other people. They could have no problem walking up to a stranger and talking to them but after some time around other people (even friends), they need time alone in order to "recharge."

I definitely could not have said this better. I'm one of those people that has to have time alone even from my husband. That doesn't mean I throw him out of the house or anything, but I'll spend time in the other room and do my own thing. Even if I was just spending time with my hubby and my best friend, if I had to do it for more than a few hours, I'd get really exhausted by the whole thing. I also really don't want to be out of the house for more than a couple of hours. If I'm hanging out with friends, I want to do it at home where I can easily break from the group if I feel like I need to. I really don't like groups of more than 4 though.

ISFJ - I took this test about ten years ago, and was interested in seeing if the results had changed over time. They haven't.

I've been watching to see which other posters are also ISFJs. So far, it's only Michael and I.

This is so true for me. And I never thought of introvert and extrovert in the sense of the energy connection.

I definitely come alive when around other people and crowds don't intimidate me in the least. In fact, "the more the merrier" suits me to a tee. I so much love being in a large group and everyone enjoying each other. It gives me immense satisfaction to see people having a good time. When I'm alone I often have trouble getting started. I do like being alone at times for sure but I'm a lot more lethargic.

Thanks for the insights liluthu.....frubals to you! :)

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who have cooperatively taken part in this study, which is of my creation.

May I also state: this is not a major study. This is for a Psych 1000 class. Obviously, I felt no need to come up with a complex test. For my purposes, the condensed Myers-Briggs works JUST FINE. Also, the test is only a SMALL COMPONENT of the overall study. I have not stated what the objective is, because that would possibly throw off the results. But I will have you know that the study has very little to do with your specific Myers-Briggs results.

And lastly, I would like to comment on the quality of results between forums we have tried this on. My best results, with the most cooperative answers, were seen on a forum for underground metal music fans, many of whom listen to what could be considered the most aggressive music on the market. These people were extremely positive and supportive of my study. However, on this forum I have met with much redundant criticism--how, may I ask, can you criticize a study's methods when you don't even know what the study is about?

But, at the end of it all, thank you all for participating.

i believe the initial problem came about when one proposer of your study was relatively rude to one of our posters.

no real problem, but i think participators in your study have the right to make comments and criticisms, regardless of how much they know of your agenda.

Please point to said "much redundant" criticism. I am aware of only one post that questioned the validity of the study itself. Everything else was about the way in which your partner responded, and I must say that your response is not much better. In psychology, you are reliant upon the willing participation of humans to be test subjects in order to conduct your studies. If they have concerns, you address their concerns. You don't respond by questioning their right to have such concerns.

Note: Test subject argumentative, showing signs of denial and raised anxiety. Like, what's their major malfunction? ;)

Personally I find it hilarious to get feedback hinting at what a study is about while also getting told we shouldn't know the objective of the study because it could skew results! Also, what's with the strange comments? e.g. "My best results, with the most cooperative answers, were seen on a forum for underground metal music fans, many of whom listen to what could be considered the most aggressive music on the market". What's that got to do with anything? Are we being told off for not behaving the way we're meant to? Psych 1000 eh :biglaugh:
