Question about the snake in Eden

We Never Know

No Slack
Why did God punish the snake to crawl on it's belly? When snakes naturally crawl on thire belly?:)

Snakes once had legs. Evolution changed that. We can see the vestigial legs that are tiny leg-like hooks/bumps.

How Snakes Lost Their Legs

"Snakes used to wander the Earth on legs about 150 million years ago, before they shifted from strut to slither.

Now, two scientists have pinpointed the genetic process that caused snakes to lose their legs. What's more, they say the "molecular machinery" for leg development still persists in snakes after these millions of years — it's simply switched off."

I haven't given it much thought. The question should be why it is in the story, why it is a punishment, what the punishment is for. How does making this snake crawl improve things? Does it make things worse?

Lizards crawl on their bellies, in spite of having legs. Snakes seem a lot like lizards do they not? They have the same flickering tongue and similar behaviors, have scales, lay eggs, are cold to the touch and hide similarly. They probably taste the same, too; though I can't say that for sure.

Very.
I understand why someone 'of faith' arrives at that conclusion. If another faith-based restriction were to become law, namely, "Blood transfusions are not permitted" would you obey that law if your child needed a transfusion? You would face imprisonment if you helped to break this law.I'm trying to point out that someone who doesn't agree with going to jail because of someone else's religious beliefs feels
cheated.

I’m not against it for religious beliefs.

Abortion is preventing a human life from existing because the process has already begun.

Ultimately that is the end result and I don’t feel that morally anyone has the right to do that.

Christians can make choices independently of God you know.

There are a number of motifs in play in this story .. and one has to know the beliefs of the Capital C "Canaanites" really well to sort through the story .. an example of an early Promethius motif .. where the main Character is the promordial Goddess Sophia .. a Wise Old Dragon .. who for giving man wisdom.. is punished .. thrown down to Earth from heaven above ..

Which God in the story of Two Dragons is the Chaos .. and which represents order ? for we are not in a "Good vs Evil" paradigm but one of the two primordial forces .. the separation between the salt water and the Fresh -- the land from the Sea

I submit that Wisdom .. once thrown down to earth .. represents the Order that man strives for .. the Chaos God takes two innocent babes .. knowing not good from evil . .. puts them in the ring with a God of equivalent power .. and then punishes them for losing an impossible to win battle.... .. The Chaos Dragon sends a flood to wipe the humans out when become annoying .. This Storm God cause all kinds of problems for them humans later on..

The question .. is where do we find the word of Sophia in the Bible .. word that come from the Most high Jah .. Rastafa .. .. not Jah Jah Jehova. the demiurge and thunder from down under.

"Preventing a human life from existing" ? So .. the reworked Potential Argument .. OK -- first question .. you do not wish to make law on this basis right ? .. meaning .. this just just a moral belief .. but you would not make abortion illegal on this basis.. just trying to clarify your position.

Of course I would make it illegal.

Perhaps if you ask a direct question instead of trying to set me up for a “gotcha” moment this conversation would be easier for you.

no Gotcha --- was just making a distinction between A) Having a belief and B) forcing that belief on others through physical violence (Law)

Now that you have made that distinction .. please explain how you figure saving a potential life .. justifies forcing bodily violation of another human .. through physical violence.... ?

Once you are done that -- explain what we should do about the potential life that is destroyed every month by every woman who is menstrating .. how we are going to make all those eggs realize their potential .. by force .. of course.

Nice dystopian ideology .. TP !

1. All law is physical violence per your definition so the only way to avoid physical violence is to have no laws. You can’t have a society with no laws.

2. What bodily violation? However the answer would be that in one case one life is extinguished and in the other case both lives exist.

3. A woman menstruating hasn’t begun the process of life yet. I am sure you know the biology of how life begins.

The expelled eggs are living entities.
And sperm is a living entity.
You are saying that life doesn't start until the live egg and live sperm meet?
Correct.

And it’s not life that starts at that point but it’s the process that begins which ultimately will result in a human existence.

The process doesn’t begin until the sperm and egg meet.

If that suiits your belief then that's fine by you
