Tagging @Sgt. Pepper your pms are closed and you were the one I wanted to ask this question to but if you don't want to answer it you don't have to.

There's a superstition cats can see the dead. Has anyone had any experiences suggesting this?

It is believed that cats can see the dead. I have several cats, so I've experienced this myself. I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but in ancient Egypt, cats were believed to be the guardians of the underworld. It is also believed that dogs can see the dead, and other animals can detect spirits as well.

I'm curious to know why you asked.

Is it OK if I pm you? I'm not sure I'm ready to talk about it here on the public part of the forum. If not it's ok.

I have not experienced anything unusual re the dead in any of our cats though I do think they sense things we humans do not. So do dogs and other animals.

Sometimes our mini dachshund would sleep in my lap where she preferred to be when I was working late at night in a mostly darkened house. And every now and then she would raise her head and was obviously watching something that was passing by. A moth maybe I couldn't see in the shadows? Or something else? It was spooky.

You know me, I don't believe in ghosts ect. Though i wonder what the cats are watching sometimes. I'm sure they just stare at nothing just to annoy me

I go by and check on an older fella every weekend or two. He has lots of cats with more added regularly from births.
Last weekend when I counted, his cat count was up to over 30 and I'm pretty sure I missed some.
All outside cats except a select few.
Its crazy lol
I've got a mere 9. Some are indoors only, but a few sneak out no matter what we do.

Any related experiences that could be explained by psychology or other things but others would say is paranormal?

Heres a story related that admittedly could be explained by other causes.

My grandma's cat Chloe died. I loved Chloe. I knew her since I was a kid. Anyway one night I was waking up half asleep. And I saw Chloe on my bed. Here's the thing-there is a natural phenomenon that causes hallucinations upon waking up. It's because you in-between waking and sleeping. However it might be that Chloe visited me using that half awake half asleep state. I don't see why it can't be both.

Thank you for sharing this story, VoidCat. While I don't know if your encounter was a dream or a real visitation from your grandma's cat, I do know that it's rather common for people to experience a personal encounter with their deceased pet or relative. I've also had a few encounters with my deceased pets.

Our young cat Cooking Fat died much too young.
She was the only cat our matriarch cat Angel adored. (We now have 4 other cats whom Angel loathes)
For months after her death Angel would pretend she was still here, play and mock fight with her exactly as before her death.

Missing her and make believe she was still around? Others may put a different tilt on the story
