1. In as much detail as possible what is your belief about God/ who what do you believe God is?
My answers will be based entirely from an Islamic prospective.
As a Muslim, I believe in God as stated in the Qur'an:
"
Say: He is Allah the One and Only. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute. He begetteth, not nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him." [Al-Qur'an 112:1-4]
From the above verses of the Qur'an it is clear that:
- God (Allah) is One. He does not have any partner. No one has a share in His Dominance.
- God is Eternal - which means He has no begining nor does He have any ending. Thus God is not subjected to time.
- God is Absolute - meaning that He does not require to be fed. He is Self-Sufficient.
- God does not have a child, nor does He have Parents.
- There is nothing in the entire creation that resembles God.
- God is not a sun, moon, rock, bone, stick, angel, man or a woman.
Muslims reject all forms of anthropomorphism. We do not believe God to be a man or a woman, (Although due to respect the word "He" has been used in the English translation of the Qur'an).
We believe God is Perfect and that all the Perfect Attributes belong to God, some of which are:
Ar-Rahmaan - The Most Beneficent and Gracious
Ar-Raheem - The Most Merciful
Al-Malik - The King
Al-Quddus - The Most Holy
As-Salaam - The Source of Peace
Al-Mu'min - The Granter of Security
Al-Aziz - The Mighty
Al-Khaliq - The Creator
Al-Alim - The Most Knowledgeable
Al-Ghaffur - The Most Forgiving
God does
not require eating, drinking, sleeping, and resting. God does not make mistakes nor does God forget. This is stated in the Qur'an:
"Allâh! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills."
[Al-Qur'an 2:255]
2. Did you grow up in a certain religion?
From childhood I was never thought anything about Islam except for a few things. I grew up in an country with the majority of its population calling themselves Muslims. It was in my late teens when I started to search more about Islam and became interested in it.
3. If so has that affected your beliefs today?
I can honestly say that my beliefs are firm today since they are based on evidences rather than blind following a certian path.
4. Why do you believe what you believe?
Albert Einstein said: "Science without Religion is lame. Religion without Science is blind."
I believe the Qur'an to be the last revelation from God since it presents much evidence needed for one to believe. This evidence is in the form of:
- Scientific Statements
- Fulfilled Prophecies
- The Language of the Qur'an
- The fact that it contains no errors or contradictions
- The fact the nobody has met the challenge of the Qur'an, which is to produce a chapter like one of the chapters of the Qur'an.
(However, due to time, these evidences cannot be discussed here, since it would require an entire thread dedicated to it. And I would be willing to discuss in that thread.)
I hope my answers were detailed and clear.
