Question for Christians about a verse...

19 Jehovah God and his son Jesus christ are in unity of purpose , the same way that Jesus followers are in unity of purpose with them ........... one in unity of purpose
Both Jesus' followers with the Father and Son;
and Father and Son;
are in more unity than mere purpose.
"I am in the Father and the Father is in Me"
Jn 14:10-11.
"That they also may be in Us...I in them, and You in Me"
17:21-23.
They're in unity of being.
Life.
Existence.
Eternal life.
One organism, one being, one life, even one Person.
Jesus Christ.
"I am the Vine, you are the branches"
Jn 15:5.
"Create Jews and Gentiles in Himself into one new man"
Eph 2:15.
Branches and Vine's unity is in much more than merely purpose.
It is unity of organism. Being. Life. Existence. Body (mystical). Essence.
In fact, the branches are part of the Vine

does not make them the same
Father and Son are same God.
Becuz there's only one God.
Not two. Not three. Not four.
Branches and Vine are same God.
Nor to worship them.
Not in the Godhead.
But in the life, hence being, of the One true Vine

very true indeed ,there is only one true God ,he is the most high over all the earth.

That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah,

You alone are the Most High over all the earth. psalm 83;18 and this true God sent his son to the earth .
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. For God sent forth his Son into the world, not for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him. John 3;16-17 as you say there is only one God and that is JEHOVAH, and his son Jesus christ plays a very big part in Gods purpose for the earth and mankind. And Jesus was willing to go along with Jehovahs purpose for the earth , yes he is obedient to his father .
While Jesus was made in the image of his Father in heaven, he never sought to be equal with God, for we read: "Christ Jesus, . . . although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God. No, but he emptied himself and took a slave’s form and came to be in the likeness of men. More than that, when he found himself in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient as far as death, yes, death on a torture stake." (Phil. 2:5-8) So we see that Jesus Christ himself, fashioned as a perfect man, became obedient to everything that Jehovah God said he should do.

Does Baha'i look down on evangelizing? What is considered acceptable?

Suffice it to say we Baha'is endeavor to tell others about our Faith and its teachings!

But what they do or don't do with the information is strictly their business, not ours!

This is because one of our central teachings is Indiviaual Investigation of Truth, which means each individual has the right and the duty to investigate the various religions, decide where the truth lies, and follow that! NO ONE else has the right to tell someone what to believe.

And this is one of the reasons Baha'is have no clergy or hierarchy.

That said, Baha'is are explicitly forbidden from proselytizing, i.e., telling anyone else what path he or she should follow.

We're more than happy to answer questions and encourage all and sundry to seek spiritual truth, but try not to interfere in the process.

Best,

Bruce

Maybe you didn't catch where she explicitly cross-referenced another Scripture referring to receiving a new name...??

If you read what I posted, I also refered to one of the passages she cited. Granted, another she mentioned, I didn't use.

Peace,

But if you maintain to someone that Baha'u'llah literally fulfills a prophecy in someone else's mythology, and you mean it in a non-mythical, non-subjective sense, then aren't you telling them they should worship according to Baha'u'llah?

Mayble I'm just not appreciating the subtlty of the distinction you are making.

I asked this of a friend of mine and the following is his reply:

this is an incredibly important text, that goes back to the O.T..
Isaiah 56-- The promise of a New Name when the eunuchs would be brought into the house of God--See Acts 8 and the conversion of the eunuch!! How often we just gloss over the conversion of the eunuch, perhaps focusing on the fact that he was an Ethiopian, instead of him being a eunuch!! His nationality was not the point. His being a eunuch, emphasized in the Greek by being used 5 times, is the point, and shows us that Luke was trying to get his readers to see the fulfillment of Isaiah.
Isaiah 62--The New Name in the New Jerusalem, when God remarried Israel-- see Matt. 22--Revelation 19--This time of the remarriage would be at the coming of the Lord with His reward (v. 11-12. But, fascinatingly, v. 11 is the verse that stands behind Jesus' promise to come in judgment in the lifetime of his audience (Matthew 16:27-28).
Isaiah 65:13ff)-- The New Name would be fully given when Old Covenant Israel would be destroyed, and God created a new people.

So, as Revelation 3 contains so many of these prophetic motifs and themes, Jesus was essentially saying that the church, the body of Christ was the fulfillment of those prophecies, and they were about to be consummated with the arrival of that New Jerusalem "coming down from God out of heaven." (Revelation 21:3). This is confirmed further by the fact that in Revelation 3:9f, Jesus quotes directly from Isaiah 60:14, another prophecy of the restoration of Israel, and applies it direclty to the church!

This is really good stuff, when we see the consistent prophetic theme!

Hope this helps just a bit.

No, Doppel: the decision of what (if any) action to take always properly remains with each individual.

As post 2 points out, this isn't reference to new name for Christ. But His new name for His transformed, overcoming lover. As in 2:17.
A note from the Recovery Version of the Bible, published by Living Stream Ministry, reads:
A name designates a person; a new name designates a transformed person. Every transformed believer, as a white stone, bears a "new name...which no one knows except him who receives it." Such a new name is the interpretation of the experience of the one who has been transformed. Hence, only he himself knows the meaning of that name.
Thanx

The text does not say "his name" as referring to the believer. The text says "my name" which may only refer to Jesus. I like the idea of a transformation. Names have reference to a temporal identity. Jesus was the right name for the temporal visit of God on earth since His purpose was to save His people. In the New Jerusalem there is also a temporal presence of God in the flesh but with Jesus as ruler. The old names do not fit this situation. People will no longer need to be saved because they will already be saved. A new name also removes any stigmas that might have attached from use of the old names.

Ba'hais might have a prophet with a new name but they also have a prophet who was born but the return of Jesus will not be through birth.

also that verse may refer to Isaiah 2:2-3
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us ago up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the flaw, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

moutain is the same as temple for even Moses went up to the top of the moutains to commune with God, i belive that it is in this temple that the Lord will have his thorn and his words and his teaching wil go forth into the whole of the world!!!

And it must occur in the final part of the days [that] the mountain of the house of Jehovah will become firmly established above the top of the mountains, and it will certainly be lifted up above the hills; and to it all the nations must stream. And many peoples will certainly go and say: "Come, YOU people, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will instruct us about his ways, and we will walk in his paths." For out of Zion law will go forth, and the word of Jehovah out of Jerusalem. And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore................................................ this is being fullfilled right now on those who are going up to the mountain of Jehovah, and they are being instructed about his ways , that is why they do not have weapons of war they only do peaceful things they do not lift up sword against nations and they do not learn war any more . and these ones are from all nations . and they are being instructed by Jehovah . it is an elevated worship

"12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the Temple of My God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the Name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, which is New Jerusalem, which cometh down out of Heaven from My God: and I will write upon him My New Name."~Revelation 3:12

I am just curious as to how Christians interpret this verse as it pertains to Jesus' comment about His "new name"? It has been something that I have often wondered about and never get a straight answer out of anyone. Thanks..

Well, Unitynow101, looking at all the posts, it seems to me you didn't get a good answer.
I believe in interpreting scripture as literal as possible; then, if there are symbols, metaphors, figures of speech used, read carefully to see if the true meaning is given. And it usually is! However, in this case, after searching the Scriptures, I found no hints as to what might be Christ's "new name."

Since your question relates to Christ Jesus' "new name", my answer is, it isn't given in the Scriptures. We don't know.

It will be one of the names written on the overcomers, along with the name of God, and the city of God--the New Jerusalem.
