Question for person familiar with Vedic...

Jaskaran Singh

Divosūnupriyaḥ
I came across the following verse in the kaushikasUtram and it doesn't seem to make sense to me, although that might be because the language in the verse is very complex in terms of literary quality and quite repetitive in structure. Therefore, could anyone here translate the following for me, thanks:
"atha enaM bhUtebhyaH paridadAti agnaye tvA paridadAmi brahmaNe tvA paridadAmyuda~NkyAya tvA shUlvANAya paridadAmi shatruMjayAya tvA kShAtrANAya paridadAmi mArtyu~NjayAya tvA mArtyavAya paridadAmyaghorAya tvA paridadAmi takShakAya tvA vaishAleyAya paridadAmi hAhAhUhUbhyAM tvA gandharvAbhyAM paridadAmi yogakShemAbhyAM tvA paridadAmi bhayAya cha tvAbhayAya cha paridadAmi vishvebhyas tvA devebhyaH paridadAmi sarvebhyas tvA devebhyaH paridadAmi vishvebhyas tvA bhUtebhyaH paridadAmi sarvebhyas tvA bhUtebhyaH paridadAmi saprajApatikebhyaH"

I give these things given by fire to you ... takshakaya, vaishaleyay, hahahuhu, etc. ...

What did Sage Kaushika meant? I could have asked my maternal grandfather, he belonged to the line 'Mitraswamin Kaushikasya' (Mitraswami in the line of Sage Kaushika). But alas, he is no more. :)

Grammatically, that doesn't necessarily make sense, as agnaye, bhUtebhyaH, brahmaNe, uda~NkyAya, shUlvAnAya, shatru~njayAya, etc. are all in chaturthi vibhaktiH. How does given "by fire" make sense to you if it's written as agnaye and not agninA? I think it's saying "Now of this, I entrust you to the fire, give you to the ghosts/bhUta-s, give you to the uda~Nkya, give you to the foe-conqueror, etc."

Sorry, Jas. I do not know much Sanskrit, Samskritam, as you like to mention. What does Kaushika Sutra pertain to? Some occult ritual? I could not find any reference on the net. Oh, yes, I found out with 'Kausika Sutra'. AtharvaVeda. Not much interested in it, unless it carries some historical point. Now let me search some more. (I may get back to you if I find something interesting) :)

"Two main post-Samhita texts associated with the AV are the Vaitāna Sūtra and the Kauśika Sūtra. The Vaitanasutra deals with the participation of the Atharvaveda priest (brahmán) in the Shrauta ritual, while the Kauśikasūtra contains many applications of Atharvaveda mantras in healing and magic." - Wikipedia, and that is why not interested.

praNAm nirmala,
Your question is a bit off topic, but yes you can light a lamp and do your pUjA in your bedroom as long as you set a place aside for it and don't do anything stupid or dangerous (e.g. you shouldn't be waving a AratI thAlI around while in bed or near cloths).

I think this is about Upanayan (Yajnopavita) ceremony. The Brahmachari (Batuka) is being given to the guardianship of this, this, and this. Safety during studies. Let these not trouble him. Something like that.
