Isn't that what led the US into the Vietnam war?, honoring a former treaty the US had entered into? From what I remember of Afghanistan the Taliban threatened all out attack if Trump deadline was not met.

What would Trump have done differently?

There are two major issues and neither of them are controlled by the president per-se. The first is that the Afgan army was gonna fold because of internal corruption that has been there for nearly 20 years. Pullout by either president would have seen the same collapse to the Taliban. The second issue is that either they didn't know that it would happen that quickly OR they did know and the military wouldn't admit it. Also not something the president would have been able to change.

If the Afgan army had stayed strong for at least the months that was predicted the pullout wouldn't have been an issue.

However, nothing says that additional U.S. and allied forces could not have been brought in until all U.S.citizens, allied citizens, and vetted Afghans were evacuated.

Still waiting for you to be specific about how Trump would have held Afghanistan and conducted an 'orderly withdrawal' in the face of Taliban/ISIS attacks with the 2500 troops he left in the country.

I know that is hard for you but at least try...

I suspect Trump would not have withdrawn from Afghanistan, because the Taliban ended peace negotiations with the Afghan government and initiated attacks against it!
There was also U.S. intelligence of Taliban activity throughout Afghanistan in the months prior to Biden's withdrawal. Biden himself had a phone call with Ghani in which Ghani told Biden that not everything was okay but Biden suggested that Ghani just act as if everything was okay.

So it seems to me that there was a real failure on the part of Biden to listen to what was actually going on and respond appropriately.

If the previous guy didn't release those 5,000 prisoners, the Taliban may not have been able to pull it off. Negotiating withdrawal with the Taliban was pure incompetence.

Why were there still foreign citizens still in Afganistan on the day we left? The date was fully known. Is it because an evacuation order wasn't given? And for what reason was an evacuation order not given? Do you think Trump would have given an evacuation order?

The reason there were still US citizens there is mostly because they were under the impression that Afghanistan wouldn't have fallen as quickly as it did. To give an evacuation order would have openly stated that the US had no faith in the project they built in the country. That is not a disgrace I think anyone in any upper brass would have done.

And everyone of you guys would have liked that outcome? How long would you have liked the occupation to have continued?
Four more years? Five? Ten? Another twenty?

What if the Taliban finally managed to throw the US out by force, is that an outcome you would have preferred to the current one?

This is a serious question. None of the people complaining about the withdrawal seem to have been able to name in concrete terms an outcome they would have preferred.
