Shaloom,

I was wondering if someone could give me sources and information regarding Chaim and Haim Pinto i am interested to know more about these two Rabbis for unknown reasons.. maybe because they were from Morocco themselves..

Thanks in advance.

O its Sunday in Israel? My bad i should have known this.

It's Saturday evening in the US. The end of Shabbat is based on the sun, so it doesn't end for everyone at the same time.

As for the rabbi you're asking about, I can't offer any information.
Some of the others might be able to help once they come on-line.

What would you like to know other than the fact he's from Morocco. My parents are both Moroccan and were very fond of him. I studied quite a bit on him and might be able to answer your questions. There were many great rabbis in Morocco that even Muslims had a lot of respect for.

I don't know about more than one Rav Chaim Pinto. The one I know about was a major rabbi in one of the Moroccan Jewish communities in the 18th century. He had a huge following in Morocco, and wrote some songs which I believe are still popular in some Mizrachi communities. He wrote a couple of books, if I recall right-- I think one might have been something like Ohr Tzedek or Ohr Yashar or something like that. And he was a prominent posek (halachic decisor)-- I ran into one of his responsa, which is how I came to hear of him.

There are a large family of his descendants and other relatives, who have the reputation of producing many scholars and philanthropists. It is not impossible that one of them might also have been named Chaim.

I do not know of any biography of R. Chaim Pinto in the English language, though of course that doesn't mean one doesn't exist. But I haven't seen any, either in regular bookstores, or in Jewish bookstores.

I would presume that someone has likely written a biography of him, but I would also presume it would either be in Hebrew or Arabic. I didn't look for one in Hebrew when I was in Israel, so I can't verify if one might be around. And unfortunately, I can't help with Arabic....

Well i tried looking for Arabic ones myself but found nothing :(.

The only thing i find when i search up those names in Arabic are videos where he has meetings in Morocco with Muslims something similar to a interfaith dialogue if i am correct.

Well, I guess that answers whether or not there is a modern descendant of his who is a namesake. This modern Rav Chaim Pinto, whoever he may be, is not known to me, so I can't help, unfortunately.

If there are bios of either, my guess would be they'd be in Hebrew, then.

I've read that there are and always have been good relations between Jews and Muslims in Morocco.

There was, and still is in many parts of Morocco.
Something like 60-70 years ago, there was around 300 000 Jews in Morocco. They were in very good terms, and a lot of them were close friends and even business partners with each other. However, the relationships started fading for various reasons and Jews started leaving Morocco, especially when Israel started. Today there is no more than 5000 Jews in Morocco.
