There were quite a few people in Katzpur's thread who mentioned having fake trees. I was horrified! But let's get a more accurate idea of how many people have such trees. Vote in my poll now! :149:

Errr I don't.......I once got a real tree (for when marie was in hospital for Andy's birth). I had the whole set up, went wild, got a real big tree.............

Six months later I was still hearing moning about pine needles in the carpet.........Not been allowed a real one since.:(

Seeing as I live in a very small apartment, and will be spending Christmas in Utah/Idaho, we have decided that we really don't need a "tree" at our place. We may get a little artificial tree to put on the TV, or something to that effect, but I'm going to let my wife figure that out. She's much better at decorating than I'll ever be.

As for the argument over real vs artificial - I'd probably fall on the artificial side. That is what my parents have had for years. I think my wife would fall on the real side.

I think the artificial ones are:
1) easier
2) cleaner
3) safer

Also, unless you are being anal about it, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. If I had a tradition of going into the woods and cutting down a tree, making a big deal of it, I would prefer a real tree. Going to a tree lot versus going to the closet to pull the box out, though, I'll go with the box.

Wow, that was jumbled. Sorry, long weekend in Disneyland. I can't get my brain to work at all today.

I have a fake tree, only because I don't like killing a real one just for a month's decoration. I love the smell of a real tree though. We always had them when I was a kid. But then the tree dies and it's very depressing to have to throw it out. It's not like pumpkins where you can use the pumpkin guts for pies and such and roast the seeds after you've carved the shell of the pumpkin. Once a tree is dead, it's just dead. It doesn't even make good firewood.

Fake trees are the way to go, saves money too. I don't have to buy a new one every year.

Here you can buy a permit for like $2 to go out and cut a tree down. You easterners sure have it rough...

Our first Christmas together, my husband and I got a real tree, but I couldn't figure out why it was dying. My husband finally asked me "Well when did you water it last?".
"WATER????"
Since then, we've had a fake tree. But it's a beautiful tree. It looks just like one of the trees in the "Eaton's" Christmas windows. I do a good job decorating! :D

I don't have a tree and I don't want a tree.

A little holly and ivy for the Solstice and Saturnalia will suffice, maybe some Mistletoe and a yule log.

What have Christmas trees got to with your Jesus anyway, I guess they are another approriation from Pagan beliefs.

Feathers, I think I need to borrow your metal helmet bowl...

I've got a fake tree...and I'm from Washingon.

We actually have both a real tree and a fake tree. There is a miniature fake one upstairs. I set it up the day after Thanksgiving. But we have always had a huge real tree in our living room downstairs. I would have to say I like real trees more, because it's lots of fun to pick out a differant tree each year, and they smell wonderful. I don't really worry about the tree being cut down, because a new one will be planted in it's place.
