Reason to believe in God

But if it's true, then only you exist and you're basically god.

There's a lot of truth in this.
I would prefer to put it something like God is in me because saying I'm God just doesn't sound right.

To my mind this raises the question 'What am I?"
Science does not address this in any satisfactory way. Even atheist philosophers like Merleau-Ponty express frustration with science in conceiving of Dasein.
Hence my journey into religion.
There is a presumption that religion necessitates belief in the unbeleivable, the supernatural. I don't find it so. I'm not interested in FSM's, Leprechauns or their Christian counterparts. I am interested in poetry, stories and art that allow me conceive of what it is to be in the world.
God is a conception that allows me to attempt to account for Being, not greatly different from Universal miind as put forward by the Buddhists.

My reason for belief is that I want to understand what I am. I believe it is a mistake to confuse belief for literalism .

"The very fact that something exists is reason enough to believe in God."
Anonomous
I see many reasons to believe in God. the need people have for an empowering figure in hardships, the awe people feel when out in nature, very basic and down to earth things.
however, not all people are like that, some people look to secular reason in order to deal with the same things.

Some beliefs are more logical and better substantiated by evidence than others, so critique and scrutiny is fair.
That doesn't actually mean much, though, when people will believe what they want to believe (including that some beliefs are more logical and better substantiated by evidence than others).

Not everyone believes what they want to believe. Some people believe where the facts lead.

But we often want to believe the facts. They're prettier.
Which facts are prettier than what? I'm not sure what you mean.

My point is simply that not all people will believe what they want to believe. Some people, likely a minority, are willing to accept where the facts lead regardless of whether they like or dislike where they lead.

I take a lot from existentialism. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Now back to my question. I take it you are unable to give me an answer?

You know i can't.

But the inability to prove the existence of existence is in no a good argument for the existence of god.

I'm saying that most of what most people believe is what they want to believe, just because it's facts, regardless of where they lead.

Edit: When you go to a movie, you want to see the movie in focus rather than poorly presented. The movie in focus is what you want, because that's the best you paid for and you'll invest in the best. It doesn't matter if the movie presents a pretty or ugly picture, the movie out of focus is itself ugly, and the movie in focus is itself pretty. Similarly, we'll invest most, in terms of belief, in what appears to us to be true. (It's what we pay for.)
