When the partial transcripts were released (plus, don't forget that the transcript is not verbatim and was likely edited to make Trump look better) Zelensky Received a lot of flak from the Ukrainian people for sucking up to trump (trump isn’t really liked in Ukraine or Western European country for that matter). So he tried to protect his reputation by saying he wasn’t pressured by trump and that he doesn’t want to get involved in US politics. Mind you Ukraine was also is desperate need for US military aid to go up against Russian aggression, if Zelensky would’ve said that there was pressure! that would’ve instantly sour relations with Trump as well as damage Zelensky reputation in Ukraine. Anybody with half a brain (so not Trump's electorate) will easily see the implied pressure in the general power asymmetry between the two countries and specifically in the withholding of aid, anyway.
