Reforming Your Religion from Within

A christian follows jesus, so that he can have his/her eyes on him continually. But the ultimate goal is to become jesus in this world.

I agree, we need to practice what they preached, not preach what they practiced.

Walk the walk, don't JUST talk the talk.

.... As another point of interest, one might note the similarities between ideas put forward in the "Over-Soul" and the state that Father Keating is offering as well as a host of others who are surfacing now at an increasing pace...
Such examples of those who are devoted to changing Christianity from within by bringing back the spirituality center and recognition of unity with other traditions keep surfacing. Such is the case with the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault.

http://integrallife.com/node/49052;

'The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault is a leading teacher and a provocative voice in the progressive Christian movement through her work with the Aspen Wisdom School and the Contemplative Society. Her participation in interfaith exchanges around the world (as well as her extraordinary books like The Wisdom Jesus and her upcoming work on Mary Magdalene) make her an ideal teacher for exploration of the Future of Christianity. An Episcopal priest and international retreat and conference leader, Cynthia is passionately committed to recovering the Christian contemplative path and has worked closely with Fr. Thomas Keating, Fr. Bruno Barnhart, and other Christian contemplative masters, as well as in Sufism and the Christian inner traditions.'

Personally would not agree with that; simply because it will be like *cloning*. Each particle though are of the same element *consciousness* are unique in time/space till that merger and so would state that each should be *christ* as Jesus himself showed us how!

Violet.
We all/each re-form everything
within our own Selves.

There would be no way to stop it.
Re'Formation on a mass level,
may or may not re'Form
what we have already formed within our own Selves.

Even when we accept other people's constructs as our own
they still pass through the "filter" of "I". (or Self)

Good point. Many do not make the distinction between the 'historical' Jesus and the Christ and from some perspectives it is appropriate not to. One notable, however, that worked toward revamping Christianity from within was Paul Tillich who taught the distinction and that we should write "Jesus as Christ" and that we can 'be Christ as Jesus showed us.'

It might be worth noting in keeping with the OP of this thread that another power toward revamping Christianity from within is Bishop John Shelby Spong. His books spell it all out:
-
Eternal Life: A New Vision: Beyond Religion, Beyond Theism, Beyond Heaven and Hell
-Jesus for the Non-Religious
-Why Christianity Must Change or Die: A Bishop Speaks to Believers In Exile
-A New Christianity for a New World: Why Traditional Faith is Dying & How a New Faith is Being Born
