You know, I'm not surprised that no one on this site selected "I’m religious but I don’t find religious texts & teachings useful", but surely you've met people who call themselves religious and even go to church, yet they never crack a Bible and can't quote a single scripture. Do you think that makes them less religious? A mere sheeple who only wants to be led and not have to think about things too much?

I cant remember the last time I saw an atheist who confronted religion, and not Christianity.
Really?
I can name several non-theists (and several theists) on RF who do so on a regular basis. Not to mention other more academic sites that tackle science and philosophy and religion. And not to mention the countless books and publication that do so...

Of course the Judaeo-Christian-Islamic traditions are the big monotheisms so they're focused on for the most part, but not at the exclusion of other variations of or even religion itself.

eta: I voted atheist/useful in that religious texts offer a wealth of historical and anthropological information. As well as some being absolutely beautifully written and stellar examples of prose and poetry. It's just when people use them as moral guidelines or as science textbooks that I find them utterly useless and even dangerous.

I'm religious... but my faith has no scriptures or churches.

Someone else can't tell me how I should relate to Creator... I can talk to them about shared experience and for advice... Not something I can get out of a book.
