Hardly any confirmation that any answers are correct though - so why bother asking such questions? That is, the LLMs will fall foul of the ad populum fallacy much of the time.

Well, the point is that these current AIs are just recycling the many biases that humans have, such that it is not useful to try to get them to answer existential questions when we humans have no better knowledge of such but purely beliefs as to this. And they just return answers mainly as to what is popular.
