Religious War?

I have been wondering for the past couple of days. I am in the military and fully support our president and all of the troops fighting in Iraq. It is a hard thing to do. I thank them for what they are doing?.

But I can't help but wonder if this is a religious war? If this war is right. Is God with us in this war? I know that what some of the people over there have done isn't right and should be stopped. And believe me, I have not forgotten about 9/11. But is this truly what God wants? Is He with us?

Please help me shed some light on this. Thank you. Any comments are welcome.

Bless you Matt!

I fully support each and every troop deployed to Iraq. I only wish we could bring them all home NOW.

I had never thought of this as being a "religious war", but I can sure see how it could be taken that way. Our politics seemed to be inundated by the religious right and maybe they have this as an ulterior motive.

As a veteran myself, I echo NetDoc in saying that I fully support each and every troop deployed to Iraq and pray for them daily... but I don't believe this unjust war of aggression is what God wants from us.

I believe this too. To me it does just seem like a war of aggression. But then again, it wasn't right at all what they did to us at first. They say they do it for their God. Are we doing this for ours? It really doesn't seem right. Some days I just wish that God would come down in front of everyone and say, "OK stop showing off. This isn't what I want. No stop." That day will come though, it just won't be that simple.

The people of Iraq did what to us? Do you mean 9/11? I don't believe I've been shown any evidence that the people of Iraq or their former government were directly responsible for the attacks on the US.

Well, some of us believe that God has told us the war is wrong....:D

Just as a reminder, 'they' (meaning the Iraqis) didn't do it to us, if by it you mean September the 11th.

And part of the attraction of the U.S. is that we don't have just the one god. Unlike some other countries, we're entitled to worship one god, many gods, or to acknowledge no god. I, too, wish that any god out there would come down and tell the warmongering humans to knock it off. I don't know why She hasn't yet. ;)

Remember,

Iraq has never sponsored a terrorist attack on US soil or against US citizens. That was Al Queda out of Afghanistan that was responsible for 9/11. Our government has deceived us greatly!

I think it telling that the war against Afghanistan went so quickly. The Soviet Union was never able to get a toe hold in there and we walked in and knocked 'em flat.

Now consider how opposite the war in Iraq has been. Did God smile on us in Afghanistan and has now turned his back on us in Iraq? Quite possible.

yeah i probably should have worded that differently. it isn't the people of Iraq. Or Iran or Afghanistan. It is just a few select people that have come out and declared certain things about themselves and our country. But I guess the only true thing is that we have no idea what is really going on.

Those countries themselves weren't responsible for what happened. Just those few groups.

I guess God just hasn't told me yet. :) I'm listening though.

I guess am just tired of all of the fighting. People are dieing when they should be living. One other question. Do you think that God is coming soon?

I think this is a cultural war... one that includes religion. But it isn't Christianity vs. Islam. It's Freedom vs. Fundamentalism. This is the same war pagans had to fight against the Catholic Church's violent fundamentalism and imperialism. That's we are facing with Islamic Socialism. It's an imperialist, fundamentalist movement that has no consideration for human life. I don't know your God, but if your God cares at all about Human Life, I would assume he is very supportive of the War on Terror.

I would worry if a god of love and life supported something like war. I don't understand how anyone can say they support life and war... it's nothing but death.

Allowing Islamic Socialism to spread would be a far greater evil. How would you feel living under Islamic law? You think the Christian Fundamentalists are bad... wait till you have to live like people in Saudi Arabia or Syria.

Good People who have the courage to fight, to protect the life and liberties of all are the most praise worthy people on this planet; and I'm sure their goodness and courage have earned them the affection of the gods.

So, you want to wipe out Islam now? I don't recall that these Iraqis had initiated or supported any attacks on the US or US soil. They DID invade another ISLAMIC country years ago, but since there was no significant difference in religion, that was obviously about the oil: which is what THIS war is all about.

America has become the aggressor: not the protector of human rights. I wonder how many innocents have died as we have tried to "free them" compared to how many died under Saddam's rule. That would be an interesting comparison.

The nature of the current situation in Iraq depends on your perspective. If you are part of the resistence in Iraq or a supporter of jihad you view the situation as a religious war. Otherwise I do not think this is a religious war. I do believe we (both republicans and democrats) sent troops over to Iraq based on the intelligence available at the time. Yes, we know understand that intelligence was flawed, but all parties made their decision based off the same intelligence. It was not the Bush adminstration looking for a excuse to invade Iraq.

God is always with us, although we are not always with Him. However, because He is with us, does not, mean He supports us or what we are doing. Until this subject was brought up, I never put much thought into it. I just pray for everyone's well-being.

Peace,

Not entirely accurate. The initial draft was written stating that war was to be the LAST option. Shrub choose it as his FIRST option. Why? Because he was looking to be the "War President". Of course, at this time anyone who was against this war was portrayed by the Right to be unpatriotic.

I don't think this is a religious war, it's a political war done for political gain.

I do not believe this war is right and I would be very wary of any god that supported an unjustified war.

True, but we have plenty of people right here at home who are hurting others and should be stopped as well, but I don't think we want other countries invading us trying to stop them, do we?

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

Not from my understanding of God, no...
