I don't know anything about it either, but the title sounds uber cool.

If it plays out anything like Jesus Christ Superstar I'm in. But being a Christian work, I'm not under the impression they're going to take it in the same vein.

Still, the title sounds uber-cool anyways!

Renegade Gospel, Rebel Jesus?

Umm, a rather bizarre title if you ask me.

It looks like this pastor is trying to "sex up" the message of Christianity, and invest it with a sort of edgy feel in the hope that it will be more attractive to youngsters disillusioned with Sunday school.

In my opinion, nothing beats the uplifting spirituality of a traditional, high church service with its solemnity, stimulation of the senses (the "smells and bells") and openness to the worship of God through beauty.

That don't need "sexed up". People want a retreat from the world by coming to church, an encounter with something beyond themselves, a great mystery.

Where is the spirituality in the idea of "renegade gospel"?

If you'd like to read a sensible and scholarly perspective arguing for Jesus as a social revolutionary (not a political rebel, since he didn't advocate regime change!), I would advise you to become familiar with books by Professor Richard Horsley.

Meh.

His spiel sounds like every other spiel I've heard before on the subject- especially in youth group settings.
Yeah. Check this out.

I was wondering why it was geared for youth cuz it didn't sound on the surface that it would be something youth would be interested in. Kind of a bland "canned" pseudo rock style musical
score in attempts to "butch" up and excite it's young viewers. Might work on gullible and impressionable teens.

The DVD version kind of reminds me of Jesus Camp in some ways.

Its an attempt to relate to kids where they are at. On one level it may work but its success, if any, depends on whether or not students can relate that to the language of the Church. As any sales pitch it must grab their attention. The 'smell and the bells' won't cut it for them without relating to Jesus on a personal level that touches their lives outside of Sunday school.
But I think one has to be very selective on the medium used as the kids are the experts on which language and music reaches them.

YIKES JESUS CAMP! Well he said one thing that I liked made sense. He did talk about not wanting to get saved to geta free pass out of hell and getting saved is not to go ro heaven. I think that was one controversial thing he said.

It sounds like he might not believe in heaven and hell or if he does hes putting down the idea of just going to church to get out of hell.I listened to one of his videos and I do think that one part is edgy he also talked about being tolerant accepting of gays and liberals.

Thats good. The idea that you should get saved to do the will of Jesus pick up yourth cross and follow Jesus instead of being heavily concentrated on getting a free pass out of hel thats very very good.

However at the end he did say Jesus is God qouted the I and my Father are one crap and if you really want to live for God he did not mention going to hell but just if you want to live for God be close to God Jesus is the only way. Just because didnt mention hell doesnt mean its ok. I still got the convert Jesus crap.

I was at a United Methodist church when this woman recommended him, they are ultra uber liberal. They claim that they wont pressure me to be christian and will accept me in my own convictions if I go visit there regular. If they stick to that I will continue to go.

But if they end up shoving this guy down my throat of course Ill stop.
